How to tap a shallow hole?
Hi guys!
I would like to cut thread in the hole that is about only 1/4 inch or little more deep. How do you experienced guys do it? Do you use some special tap for that? When you tap through hole the tap goes all the way through with it’s tapered nose but I have no idea how to do it in shallow holes.

BTW, are these bottom taps sold in any hardwear store or is it specialty tap?

Just insert it a little at a a time, you will be able to go deeper and deeper if you take your time. 😆
That’s what it was called a bottom tap. But I just grind off the tapered part works the same and u save a bit of money.
Did somebody say something about TAPPING a BOTTOM.

what you need is a bottom tap
Well u can buy a tap that dosnt have the taper. But what I do is I grind off most of the taper and I get it to were it just starts then I grind off the rest untill its flat and then finish tapping like normally.

BottomING tap.
MSC, McMaster or eBay have them. Local hardware stores probably wont have them, Lowes and Home Depot definitely wont have them.
