Dragon Slayer 454
Been out in the garage (bad weather) working on the Corsair and the Dragon Slayer. Stopping a leak in the DS has been fun to say the least. Hard to get parts. A new LEROY RODUNER fill nipple here and a NEW ORING there and some new parts here and she seems to be good so far.
I sold my Jack Haley 457 and decided that the DS is a keeper for life. But i wanted and needed to breath some fire back into her. A while back, i had a buddy machine me another hammer weight set up so the gun would now become a separate cock and load gun. I wanted the custom hammer to be heavier than the factory hammer. The OEM hammer weighs 1.9 oz and the custome one weighs 4 oz. including cocking handle. I also opened up the airtube hole a tad bit more to MAX….lol. My buddy also made me a custom DELRIN Transfer Port and we got rid of the brass TP. I also moved the Bipod more forward and filled the previous stud hole with WOOD BONDO and retouched it up. I also scrounged up a stiffer smaller spring than the one my buddy sent me. And began trimming it too length. Yes, the mainspring is a DUAL setup. I also polished the heck outta the hammer and that gave me a little more FPS also.
Already got some round ball for it and i also have some Mark Whyte 175 gr TC bullets. Jerry is ALSO sending me some 220 gr Raptors so a test VIDEO of all the mods is coming soon. Including a clip of the SHREAK of Jerry’s RAPTOR slugs. If you’ve never shot his Raptor slugs and heard them scream downrange……..you’ll want to. Should be able to capture most of the sound on video as they scream past the cameras mic.
So far, from a 3000 psi fill, 454 cal Hornady Round Balls are doing 898.6-909.6-875.6, Jerry’s 220 gr Raptor slugs are doing right at 700 FPS for the 1st shot but will be just a tad faster on the second shot. More chrony work to come (gun is kinda loud in a TOWN HOME community..lol). The 175 gr Mark Whyte bullets…….NOT SURE YET! Haven’t chronyied them yet. But they are probably gonna do about 800 FPS or so.

80G:
YES, the slot in the tube was machined along with the one in the wood. When i first got it and chronied it, it was shooting .495″/181 gr RB’s at 610 FPS for roughly 149.5 FPE. It also shot 490″/175 gr RB’s at about 619 FPS for roughly 148.8 FPE. 6 shots from a full fill clustered into a tight group. And that’s with NO mods and at 3000 psi. My first set of mods took it to exactly 100 FPS faster (619 to 720 fps or 208 FPE). Then i switched the barrel to 454″.
GTBJ: I would for sure say you are right. And i’m sure it’s closer to 5. But, i haven’t field tested it yet and have only chronied it so far. It’s got a seriously SHORT bell curve which is what i wanted for this gun as opposed to the normal, DROP PER SHOT FPS most bb guns get. 898-909-875 for the 1st 3 shots at 3000 psi. So no testing yet with even a 3100 psi fill or even extended shots at the normal 3000 psi. So more testing and numbers to come.
Jerry: LoL! man, i really feel bad for Timmy. Poor guy. It also sounds like the BLACK MAMBA bullets/slugs are taking off. VERY GOOD NEWS! Now, go tell Timmy i need those bullets in 459″ instead of 454″ and see what he sais……….LOL!
Fox: Yeah man, Cali and Texas have some biiiiiiiiiiiiiig jacks bro. The ones in Arizona are even bigger..lol. The are the Antelope Jack Rabbit and can weight upwards of OVER 10 lbs 😯 One of these days i would love to make the trip NEXT DOOR to go hunt them. Would be hella fun i’m sure. The 3 in the other pic are from Texas and they were HUGE (for scale, my foot is a size 13). just can’t tell from the pics unlike the top jack photo. The 3 were all hit with Jerry’s Raptors which i don’t think he even knew. But a hog and those jacks were all killed in the same weekend with SUREFIRE’s Raptors. The single Cali Jack was hit with a RB hence no blood in the photo…lol
