Box stock 22 SS capable of 24FPE?
I got this idea in my head I want to get 50 – 75 FPS out of my stock Talon SS (and I want to try and keep it that way) shooting 18.1g pellets.
What changes do you recommend I start with?
Before I get into this, am I expecting too much from the SS? I’ve got a .22 and a .25 both with 24″ barrels, so I’ve got rifles with plenty of power. I was just wanting to “tinker” with an SS and see if I could get the power of my M-Rod but enjoy the compact and takedown feature of this rifle.
This is a recent chrony shot string I did. ( it took all evening and a tin of pellets 😯 )
The tophat is out as far as it will go (.110″). The breech fits snugly against the top hat without play ( cocking bolt against the notch in the frame )
Increase tank pressure ( 2500 now ) with more preload ( 4.12 now) or try going the other way?? I dislike any more preload than necessary. For me, increasing preload seems to affect accuracy and efficency.
I’ve got a heavier hammer I could use.
In ramping up my FPS, am I going to have an inconsistent shot string? I’m OK with less shots, I just don’t want a sawtooth shot string.

I tried a 12″ barrel in both 22 and 25 in the condor and could not get a decent shot string and the wasted air made the gun really loud.
I may open up the bottom port in the talon stem to increase duration just a little. What do you think?

Just be very careful when you open up the ports, there is not much room between them and the derlin seal. sssssssssssss.
The most gain you can get will come from a valve job. Take it apart and clean up all the ports and polish the shit out of it. There are other posts on here that go into great detail about the Talon valve.
With the new air you are going to get, you need a heavier hammer and a 3000 lb fill to get it going. I use an 80 gr. hammer and it woks the best.
I have an 18′ barrel and with this setup shooting 18’s I am getting 950 fps with no problem. I am good for about 30 to 35 shoots that are right on.
IMO the stock Talon is the most consistent and fun to shoot of all the Air Force guns.
LMTSS – no I haven’t. The tanks on the other rifles have etac’s on them and would be to much effort (for me anyway) to switch out.

For the 12″ 177 owners out there, pop a 15.8gn Skenco New Boy (was Big Boy) in your gun and watch it run 22 ft/lbs! with a stock hammer and tank.
have you tried the high flow tank on it?
