BENJAMIN REGAL NP REVIEW…..22
😀 I couldn’t wait to do some shooting. So I headed down to big 5 and picked up a, Benjamin Regal NP .22 for a $160.00. .
I Ran a cleaning rod down the tube and my lord this thing was greasey.
So I soaked some cleaning pellets in B12 chem cleaner and fired them 3 at a time for about 30 shots. They came out clean, so I started runing crossman pellets through it. Got about 100 through before it got dark.
The rifle looks nice trigger seem’s good. I like that you have to manually
put the safty on. It looks like the Remington Summit stock and a Benjamin trail NP or a remington npss . the 4 power scope mounted well, I’m not going to ajust the scope untill there is 1000 rounds through the rifle. The pellets are hiting level just right, which is probaly do to the rifing needing to be broke in. it’s quite too. Here’s some more pic’s.

OK, I tried my best. I shot over 1200 pellets through it since the day I got it. 4/17/12… I got it to hold a 3inch group at 43yards but it was low and left, after a hundred or more shot’s it was same. So I started 1 click , 1click . Would’nt even get back on the target. So 1 click , 1 click . That one click put it over a foot off target..So after 1200 round’s I returned it today. 🙁 I was hoping for a better out come..
I’m positive the rifle is more accurate than the scope but I’m not willing to put a $100+ into a Scope for $169.00 Rifle. Oh well at least, I got a few pest Bird’s with it 😆
My rest was a few bags of compressed saw dust for the chickens.lol
So it was a bit shakey. I have over a thousand pellets through it now. I only have the jsb 14.35’s and 18.13. What other pellets would you gentlmen recomend i order. I have the feeling the rifle is more accurate than the 4 power CP it came with. What scope would you recomend around the $100 to 120 range. The four power is red loctite in place and slid to the rear of the rings. So I don’t see how it could move, I’ve been wrong B4 though,alot.lol.
Will you explain the crowning to me in depth please. The type of stone or bit I may need for the dremmel.

Heavier pellet hitting higher then lighter pellet has to do with pellet weight and recoil of the rifle.
I had exactly same thing happened to me and I was puzzled by it. If you shoot PCP rifles the heavier pellet will hit usually lower that is why I was shocked.
Someone on the forum explained to me that when you shoot springer the rifle recoils first backwards and then forward. So, when it recoils backwards the muzzle flips up and pellet exits. The difference with lighter and heavier pellets is that lighter ones exit faster and the heavier ones stay in the barrel longer and exit much slower so the arc of the pellet is greater with barrel being up for a fraction of a second longer and therefore pellet will hit higher due to this greater arc.
Anyway, there is a lot more to this then what I explained but it is in short what happens.
the solution is, let it recoil as much as it wants and adjust the scope if you plan to shoot heavier pellets.

I’d try to use only one weight pellet and stick with it. That particular rifle is probably pushing those 18.1 gr at about 750 fps. The 14.35 gr are probably a bit light if there was any wind, although it looks like pellet drop was the primary culprit. I’d try some 16 gr pellets and see if any difference is shown. These rifles can be very picky on what they shoot well.
170 clicks sounds like a lot, but with most good scopes that means a 1/4″ to 1/8th” change for each click at 100 yards (300 feet). Barrel droop might have played a factor, along with a greasy barrel and climate conditions, but your rifle rest looks plenty solid.
I’d check to see that the scope is mounted as tight as possible.
You might try grinding out the end of the bore with a dremel stone to even out the exit path for the pellet. Most less expensive barrels aren’t crowned well at all. Further, I’d grind an inlet for loading, in case the inlet isn’t perfectly circular and you are bending the skirts. Check the shroud exit for any clipping by rubbing a Q-tip on the inside to see if any lead residue is present. I doubt the shroud has any baffles in it.
For a springer, the rifle shows potential, given a solid scope mount, a good crown and inlet, and no wind. It may take a 1000 shots to get it to reliable performance. Hard telling what the pump is lubed with.
Try to be sure the rifle is perfectly vertically level with each shot. Each degree of cant will do some bad things, especially if your hold isn’t exactly the same each time. Might account for the wide spread on some of your groups. Even your grip strength is important with each shot. Too tight or too lose and the pellets will wonder about.
Lots of variables at work here, so don’t get discouraged. It will probably never shoot at high dollar pcp accuracy, but it should be able to come closer that you got.
If you have access to a chrony, you can tell what deviation the pneumatic pump is providing in air pressure to the pellet.
I’ve read reports on this guns cousins, the NP Trails, etc. They are getting 1/2″ at 33 yards, but they have been broken in first.
Let us know what turns out. Little changes can make a big difference. You may have had a “bad” shooting/hold day. It happens.

Top two photos with the tape measure are at 71 feet what’s weird to me is the jsb 18.13 were hiting higher than the 14.35 at every yardage I tried out to 43 yards so far. the back pole is a hundred feet and I have a dirt pile at 43 yards. once I moved out to 43 yards I had to take 60 clicks of elavation off the 170 clicks I added to get on target from stock settings at 71 feet. So right now it a +110 clicks elavation at 43 yards with 18.13 jsb jumbo heavy diabolo. Even at 43 yards the jsb jumbo express diabolos hit lower than the heavys.

Back pole hundred feet.
I fired 800 crossman pellets through it, the last 200 being coated in JB bore cleaning compound. Then I cleand it really well and started seeing where the jsb 14.35 were hiting at 71 feet
it was hitting a foot lower than the aim point. So up elavation was 170clicks to get it on target.
Hoot. It’s a full shroud. Really quite. Got about 400 rounds through it. another 500 or so and I’ll sight it in.
Is the bull barrel functional? Does it serve like a shroud, or is it just cosmetic and to aid in cocking?

For US Newbies….So I did a lttle tinkering last night. The trigger is so nice now.. Once i got the spring out and the assembly back together there is another spring that crosses the front of the trigger. I took a flat head and pushed it down a bit so it wasent at max tenstion. Fired a hundred shots so far this morning and the trigger is awsome.. I would say just over a pound bareley any creep. I put everything back together with red loctight. There was some surface rust on the trigger and cocking mecanisim, so I diasembled it too cleaned it and used Graphite cable lube on all pivot and sliding points. I mounted the scope as follows. Seat hole in reciver for rear scope,Filled it with locktight. Then set ring on, Hand tight, Max out the depth on your set screw. The ring should be a little loose so you can slide it back to make sure it wont move. Now tighten clamp tight, tighten depth screw.. Set the front ring loose. I se the scope in the rings and moved it back untill the ring stopt it against the turrets. I then slide the front ring all the way forward to the front bell. I then loctite and screw the tops on to an equal gap all around. I also added a drop of lock tight on every corner of the rings to the reciever. it almost seems to made to mount that way because the eye relief seems great.
I haven’t even touchd the elavation or windage and don’t plan to untill 700 or a 1000 rounds. I’m shooting crossmans semi point domes from big 5 to break it in then i got jsb 14.3….
once i think it’s broke in. I’ll post groupings. I’m leaving the stock scope on to really get a good review of this rifle and what you can get from it with some loctite and a scredriver…
