Nothing wrong with the R2.X, nothing at all. He probably bought this for $1595, and wants to recover his R3 costs.
If you want one, here it is…. Ed’s already said he can’t keep up with the U.S. demand. All you need is $$.

sorry Riff, I fear the 17HMR will have a window of use not any longer than the 5mm Rimfire magnum…just not a large enough operational base of owners buying up large amounts of the ammo. Thats what killed the 5mm magnum which was quite close to the 17HMR
you want a .17 that’s reloadable get a .17 Remington barrel for an AR and if you are cheap make your brass by necking down .223
I can tell you with the right load a .17 Remington will just blow shit up and shoots like a laser out to some 300 yards and feeds reliably in the AR platform
down side is barrel life isn’t great
then again it can get WELL over 4000FPS
the 17 Ackley is a pipsqueek in comparison and being based on the rimmed Hornet case makes it a bit magazine sensitive
Ackley really designed the round to be used in things like Winchester 1885 Single Shot actions though I have seen a sweet winchester 1892 lever gun that was rebuilt for it…the .17 Hornet is a rebranded .17 Ackley which dates to the 1950s or earlier
anyways the .17HMR is just a reshuffle of the .5mm rimfire magnum and will likely meet it’s same fate once the novelty is gone
mind you I been through all this before back in the 70s with another rather decent rimfire pesting round the 5mm rimfire magnum
had a surge of use and popularity now good luck on finding ammo for one at any reasonable price
been my experience much of this is a sucker play and I can give you a few dozen examples
not so bad with center fires orphans like the .41 mag or .22 S&W Jet but you are ass out on the rimfires
tens of thousands of rifles were made in 5mm rimfire magnum…they just collect dust today and I suspect the .17 will eventually go the same path
while I agree 2K is a bit of money for an airgun I don’t bat an eye spending more, much more for some of my 19th century collectors pistols and rifles that get a whole lot less use
I rather doubt the 17HMR will ever go out of production in this century. However if it does, it will be the manufacturers own fault for releasing even better rounds every year.
While the 17 Hornet isnt a rimfire, its 1000fps faster than the HMR and is now available. Once you get the brass, dies, ect… its not going to disappear. This round could easily upset the desirability of the HMR, but it probably wont affect it much.

My favorite non-pcp is my Savage left-handed .17 HMR. It is a pleasure to shoot, doesn’t tear my shoulder off, and will shoot straighter than I am capable of at 100 meters.
The hollowpoint explodes on contact. The polymer tip penetrates dang near anything, including body armor, and just keeps on going, tumbling, tearing, ripping the guts out of most critters.
It’s an awesome caliber, and relative inexpensive to shoot.
A pcp has it’s place, especially living next to a crackpot neighbor, but I’d sure like to put that .17 polytip in a feral hog’s head just to see what comes out the other side. Perhaps someone has used that caliber on some wild critters and might tell us if it’s up to the task?

In the USA,, Nah I’ll pass I bought 2 tack driving varminters for less than that one even has a tactical rangefinding scope on it worth the price of one of the guns, so I’ll let the Friends here that can’t own powder burners in their countries have these high dollar pellet rifles and I’ll buy USA made long rang shooters, my air guns and my scuba compresser will do it all in the air gun class, ,,,, now maybe if the price was $499 I’d concicer it, but at $2000 I’ll stay with the real guns.;)
Not a bad price if you ask me. Supply and demand has something to do with that but its still worth it, comes with rings and a scope too. If I didn’t have one and couldn’t wait I’d get it. I wonder what kind of scope it comes with?

That is one fine round, it will reach out there and touch someone. I bought the 223 and make my own bullets by setting the bullet right at the lands, at 100 the holes are touching so I did what the instructions said and zerod the gun 1 inch high at 100, but heck 100 is the furthest shot I’ll ever get LOLOL These mountains are high and 100 is a long shot. If I could have a 200+ yard shot it would be that 17,, now the 223 don’t have any recoil either so you can hold it and watch the bullet hole form befor your eyes.
