Q:

barrel reassembly

I reassembled my Talon SS today and took out the barrel. Thanks to this forum it was pretty easy. Now the problem is reassembling the whole thing. The helpful forum says “do it in reverse”. Well, maybe I am missing something but for me it is almost impossible to work the barrel into the frame and against the spring tension screw the screws into the barrel bushings. Is there a trick? I tried pressing it down with a dowel but kind of need a third hand to hold it. How do you guys the the screws lined up when the spring tension pushes it out? Or should there not be spring tension?

Thanks for any help!

Helpful vid here from Tom as well. Covers just about everything for the beginner in me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4_6F_Ybh60

Thanks for the hint with the tube! That should help in lining things up. And yes, I have the 12 inch barrel which sits in the shroud so it is a bit hard to align. I didn’t like using my dowel on the end of the barrel so will try a tube
next time. Hate to put any pressure on the crown of any barrel like that.

I hate to tell you this, but that tip came from Gaylord.
I actually use a piece of carbon tube, but I figure plastic is much easier to come by for those without a shed-full of tubing.

Well next time look to see if the hammer is back against the breech. If not, its cocked.

Barrel reassembly is very easy. I assume by your description of using a dowel, you have a 12″ barrel? Use a piece of plastic pipe instead. Make sure it fits over the barrel AND inside the frame. You can then twist the barrel which makes aligning the holes a lot easier.

When pushing the barrel in with all its bits attached, I just hold the trigger (take the tank out if the gun) When the hammer reaches the sear, a little bit more pressure and it pushes right past

Thanks. I thought something was wrong. Well, I finally got it assembled by pushing the barrel down with a dowel. I guess I must have had the hammer cocked but who knows. It works now but next time I will have to make sure it is not cocked. Still lining up these little holes is a pain. The barrel kept moving on me.

there really shouldn’t be much spring tension. I think you have the hammer in the cocked position, make sure to get the hammer past the sear and have the preload wheel backed all the way down to the point you can still get the screw into it after you have the barrel screws in
