Beeman P17 from Walmart
I have been looking at these guns, and was very curious, i have asked on the yellow and had some feed back, well went to wal mart the other night to get some beans to put on for the week end and damned if they didnt have one on the shelf.
I have looked at several wal marts on line and none near me has had this gun in stock. i would have had to make a road trip to get one, so i blew it off each time the interest peaked. i have my RWS 6g that is very accurate but i ws curious about this 39.00 dollar pistol , and was looking for something new to play with.
Well as you can guess it went into the basket with a can of bran new .177 crossman HP’s . went home and put the beans on and opened the package for the gun, i will tell yah , just picking the gun up i was impressed at the very first.
The guns heft and feel were great, it fit my hand perfectly, and grip was smooth and comfortable, the sights are plastic but made well, and fully adjustable, a litlle wider than i like , similar to a shorter barrel smith, not narrower like a longer barrel target sight gun.
I unlocked the hammer , its not a hammer , it lockes the whole top of the gun which opens and hinges to cock the thing exposing the barrel.and air cylinder. i put a pellet in , which takes some getting use too, with big fingers, but with practice not a big deal. Then closed the gun with pretty good force, smaller or older folks might have allot of effort with this gun to cock it
Iined her up and let a pellet go into the pellet trap with a pretty good smack, i was very impressed with the long smooth trigger ( it measured 1 3/4# s) , my first thought was this is a hell of a gun for 39.00 bucks. I set at the table and shot at like 25′ for 250 or 300 pellets , while tending the beans and adding spices , onions etc.
In the middle of this i shot it thru the chrony, and it was very consistent around 380 fps. with crosman hp’s .
Next day i went into the gun to see about getting the trigger shorter, i found the gun actually has an adjustable trigger , it is a allen screw in the center of the trigger, if you turn the screw in it shortens the travel but the post sticking out in front of the treads bottoms out and you cant turn the screw in far enought to get rid of most of the travel,
So to get into the gun , just take the right side grop screw off and lightly pry the grip off, it exposed the whole trigger mechanism .(which is very nice) all you have to do is pull the trigger out and take the screw out of it , and cut the thread back to give you more room to adjust it in further and the more you adjust in , the shorter the travle is before the sear releases.
This will give you a sorter pull at right at 1 3/4# with this gun , at least the one i have, i couldn’t leave this alone, so the spring that hold pressure on the arm that the trigger pushes on gets a slight stretch, do this a little at a time , because if you stretch it to far the gun will not cock,
Ok , after the stretch i have a 3/4# very short smooth crisp trigger on a gun i just spent 39 buck on from Wal mart, Unbelievable.
I was just shooting and not worring about the accuracy for the most part at 24′ it was good, almost all touching at times, when i did my part. So now we are saturday morning after trigger job and a good barrel clean at 500 pellets or so, and ready for some accuracy test. take in mind that this is on new bore , and i havent even slicked it up and polished it yet. I am impressed with this gun.

And for when your seals quit, and there are only 4

I had the main seal on the piston shaft give up due to a bur on the hole where the air pulls into the cylinder. not a big deal just a trip to the hardware store . and after changing the oring and lubeing it’s shooting 400 fps.
Had fun with this project and wanted to share,
Oh and the gun has built in scope rails , so i think there will be a red dot or a scope on this thing next 😀
