The no-no finger wagging smilie drug me down the alley I see… Well that and finding those old PMs .

To answer your question, yes I do that all the damn time. 😉

Carry on. Nothing to see here.

RiffRaff,
Shit, how easily we are misunderstood when we make to short a comment trying to be humerous. Have you ever done that?

Anyway, I was referring to your persistence in getting Knifemakers secret method of polishing the bore. Dumb me :banghead: I do that often.

Anyway, keep up the good work an I’ll try to not sidetrack you again.

I really don’t know what your saying. What did I say to who?

–edit–

Are you referring to PMs on Feb 2, 2011 regarding the JFC comment?

If so the line I wrote, “I could care less about peoples religion sensitivity but its edited just the same”, is still valid.

If thats not it, maybe you should spill the beans cuz Im lost. ❓

Good avatar TheNoid. LOL
Are you the one on top? The one that came pre-packaged with a helmet?
😎

Kimber, it sounds like you have a rough bore or one that had too many hi-velocity crosmans shot thru it.
CPs tend to leave lead behind.

Not everybody likes the idea of polishing the bore so if you try this do it at your own risk.
I use Flitz or SimiChrome on all my new barrels. A little goes a long way, and its easy to do wrong, but everytime accuracy got much better (if the barrel didnt shoot well that is) and the bore stayed cleaner much longer.

Use a fairly snug fitting jag and patch. Apply a small amount of flitz into the patch, and work the jag full length but stop it before it completely comes out the muzzle so you can pull it back thru. About 6-8 times is enough.
Clean with goobgone or goofoff, follow that with denatured alcohol, then shoot some good penetrating oil in the barrel (break-free works) and leave it in there 24 hours.
Dry patch out the oil, and repeat the process. After dry patching the bore should be nice and shiny.

The trick is to go steady, do not jerk the jag thru the barrel and use the flitz in very small amounts because its easy to overdo this. You are removing small amounts of metal inside the bore, so keep that in mind.

Again, if you do this its at your own risk. I cant control your techniques or patience level but if done right it helps a lot.

I got this routine from KnifeMaker Mike a few years ago. He always had the best groups around and I pestered him until he spilled the beans.

Looks like I was a few minutes too slow in typing. A couple of flitz users beat me to it. 😉

Start, including a new barrel, by polishing the bore to a mirror finish with a Non Abrasive polish such as J.B. Bore Paste or what I use, Flitz.

Then your bore won’t require frequent cleaning and you may experience more consistent FPS.

ALSO, I’VE HEARD TO NEVER CLEAN AN AIRGUN BORE WITH A BRONZE BRUSH.

ditto on the bronze. ag barrels are dead soft steel. PATCHES ONLY.
i also polished my barrel w/ flitz. only thing i did different is, i soaked some felt pellets in the stuff and shot them through. did that on the assumption that the pressure and coverage would be more uniform. i stacked 4 of them in succesion… flitz 1st then a dry one then flitz then dry. seemed to work pretty slick.

haven’t gotten any better looking with age, have you. 😛 😆

I also use the Teflon liquid and have excellent results. I haven’t mixed it with silicone though.

LH,

WHY SILICONE?

thats gotta make a real mess… 😯

don’t use much, just on the pivot points. stuff goes on liquid and stiffens up after a couple seconds. then i just wipe off the extra. stuff’s called JIG-A-LOO. comes in an orange can. i think i got it at menards. i mix it with silicone grease and use it to lube the hammer and breach also. it thins out the grease and i have less problems with the action getting stiff in cold weather.

do you lube the pellets?

do you shoot premiers?

if so, at what velocity?

i season the bore and pellets/slugs with a wax-teflon-BN based chain lube, and cleaning is so damn easy even felt cleaning pellets work real good.

i clean mine after every session, that equals a full tin or 250 shots.
i also strip the gun down after 1000 rounds and clean all the internals, with the exception of the trigger group, that gets cleaned by blowing it out w/ compressed air, then re-lubing with liquid silicone.
