Q:

FX Royale 400 makeover with Blodnob titanium tube…

Hi guys! Just wanted to share the project that being going for several months now.
I got Royale 400 several month ago and I loved the way it shoots and it’s consistency but I just can’t stand the bottle thing on it. I thought I am going to get use to it but didn’t happen.
So was looking for someone to make me a tube for it. Looked into FX tubes but didn’t like the size.
Finally, find out that Blodnob aka Sean in UK can do it. Look a while to make it and get it but it is here and I am very excited! Sean’s computer crashed and his friend BAZ helped Sean to ship it over to US.
Thank you Adam(wok) for help to get in touch with those guys:)
I am happy cuz I decided to give it as a gift for my nephew’s b-day. So I will make a custom walnut sporter stock for it as well and hope will soon share the whole thing finished.
The machine work on the tube is amazing!!!! Very well made and when I got it, everything fit together like it belonged together. Thank you SEan for great skillful work.
I drained the air from the bottle took the valve off it and put it on the tube and screwed the tube onto the rifle. Pumped it up to 235bar and it hold air very well.
The tube is 40mm OD with 3mm wall thickness and 45cm long. With it I got 60 shots with .22 Barracudas/Kodiaks from 900fps went up to 931fps and back down to 899fps. I think it is pretty good! End pressure 165bar.
Here are the pictures.
I hope I will share picture when the stock will be done for it. I do not like thumbhole stock either 🙂 Just my personal taste.
Also the possibilities are open for bullpup as well and that is something I am thinking as well.

Mine does not have a regulator. I thought that the bottle is already 2” in OD and for me it is too fat.

Seems like you should be able to go a lot lower on ending psi. My .25 shoots 955 fps on 1800 psi reg and 907 fps on 1500 psi reg.

I can’t remember what the .22 shoots on those tanks. Unless the reg chamber is not large enough and it takes psi to make up for it.

Would a 2″ tube fit? I might be interested in one of these if I can do a 2″ tube.

Very nice.

And what I found out by pumping it up to that higher pressure that there was no significant valve lock. But I am sure if you go much higher you will meet it.

I had a phone conversation with the AOA repair shop last week.

They had filled my shortened Roylae to 3200 PSI to get the shot string on it.

The repair person said that if I filled to a higher pressure I would get a few more shots.

Curious of course, 😆 do you suppose ❓ I asked how far you could go with the FX Royale in pressure, the reply was to 3400PSI. 😯

I had seen that some posters on the Yellow filled that high.

When I get it back from AOA, I will hire and train a homeless person to fill it that high for me. 😉

I am not much of a Bullpup sort of guy, but the other day I was thinking on how you could do that with the Royale and a tube was what I came up with also. That is a nice piece of gear there Tonaka.

NatetheDog,
Hmmmm… let me think about it a little…. Sorry NO! 🙂 I am very tempted now to keep it myself but who can blame me 🙂
Yes, the full shroud would be very nice on this gun but I am also entertaining bullpup idea for it so I think shroud would get in the way somewhat.

that would look nice with a full shroud on it to fill the long gap between the barrel and tube.

Nice! I’d hate to see you spoil your nephew with such an awesome birthday present. Soooo, probably ought to give it to me, you know, for the boys sake.

Thank you guys!
My gauge on the pump and the gauge on the gun showing the same pressure so I assume that pressure reading is correct. But I got no other way to check it 🙂 I don’t think that FX needs higher pressure to operate but when I experimented with pressures, I found out that when I filled it up to 235 bar I can turn the power up to shoot my most accurate pellet Barracuda and get almost the same amount of shots as people get with JSB pellets.
I am sure if I turn the power down and fill it to lower pressure it will be just fine.
The volume of the tube is around 370cc but I might be mistaken. I found some formula on line and calculated it a while back and IIRC that is the number I came up with. Also I found out on the forum that there is some volume of air available in the breach block (If you have no regulator installed) which equals to 21cc. So when people have 400cc bottle on their Royale, they actually have 421cc of air. Not a a lot but maybe good for two more shots or so.

Nice. I have been looking at titanium tubing. I like it better with the tube. How does the volume compare to the bottle?

How accurate are your psi numbers? you filled to 3408 psi and ended at 2393 psi. Does the FX need more pressure to operate?

Great looking gun.

Blob and Baz are good people

😛

Great Idea tonaka and amazing work Sean. Blod’s reputation is well deserved.
Looking forward to seeing your how your stock turns out. Looks really cool like it is though 😀
