When I was making percussion cap black powder rifles back in the early ’70’s we would put the barrels in the oven at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour and then wipe them down with a browning solution.
They turned out a beautiful brown/gold patina that was to mimic the original browning which was done by the owners peeing on the barrels and leaving them out to rust, then wiping them down and oil finishing the metal.
Either way, you have done a nice job. I can remember spending hours with my Exacto knife kit and some small files to shape the stocks.
I had a .50 caliber Kentucky rifle with buckhorn sights, and a shorter .50 caliber Thompson Center Kit gun.
Great fun. My favorite was the .44 Old Army revolver. That bad boy packed some punch!
