This is a post by a fellow who put three O-rings in front of his valve to cushion the hammer impact.
He calls it a “poor man’s regulator” but I believe it is more likely an efficient debouncing mechanism that helps make adjustment much easier.
Here’s the post…it’s a bit wordy but really boils down to taking out the hammer spring, removing the little cocking knob on the top of the hammer and letting the hammer fall out, then pushing the O-rings up to the front of the valve. See what you think….

PS: Mark you are correct. This little gun does it all. If the Brits can kill stuff at sub 12fpe, I’m getting 20 fpe, and at 100 feet, it will stop a possum or a coon.
Took my P-rod and a few other guns to the range early today to play & re-check zero after adding the Swift shroud. P-rod is still minute of tiny clay pigeon fragments at 20 yards and approaching 50 with a 1-mil hold over.

I really like my P-rod,a nice lightweight hunter for small pests.
Thought a little more power would be good so following Hoot`s advice
I got a GMAC spring and hdd. Will post before and after results after
install.
Hoot,if you put a bullpup stock on yours then you could stop getting your
feathers so ruffled over the unavailabiliy of the Leyla because I think your
beating a dead :horse: on that one and think of the $ saved.
Best regards,mark ps. target 5 shots@33yds
Guys….it’s a $12.00 barrel. :whoop:
I’m amazed it works as good as it does. Mine is gnat-nut accurate. You can contact Marmot_Militia and get an LW barrel to replace it. Then you get “minute of gnat-nut accuracy”!
If two of you ordered one (1) 24″ LW barrel, you could split it. Just remember to split it in the middle, not lengthwise. a 24″ LW barrel split lengthwise would be half-assed accurate!
At least I think it would.
I’ve got my Prod in the 800’s fps with the 14.3 CHP pellets and they are driving tacks at 100 feet. Usual fix…GMAC 22XX Heavy Spring, TP drilled out, vent holes in the back of the shroud, shroud extender, and all is good. That GMAC spring does two things…it easily opens the valve at 3000 psi, or higher, and it delivers a serious increase in velocity with heavy pellets.
For $349, it can’t be beat on the world market for power, accuracy, compactness, and ability to magazine eight shots!
I wish I could find a decent bullpup stock kit for it.
Meanwhile, rest in peace….

That’s the point Slayer, some shoot good and some don’t. Why should we be crosman’s QC??? Thta’s why so many guys won’t buy crosman products. Why should they when so many other good airguns are available. Oh, that’s right, the P-rod is a great idea porly executed. We naturally gravitate towards it because it is sexy; we want it to perform as advertised, or better. It has been hot roded since its first day. When properly moded, they are a great little gun. They also don’t look much like when they were taken out of the box.
I am always pleased to hear when someone is happy with their airgun out of the box.
My prod is minute of squirrel at 20 yards. I never really did any target shooting sighted in and then started wacking them tree rats!
Now you have me wondering? I have a swift scope on mine never shoot that much just feeder raiders
Mine shot 3/4″ to 1″ groups at 20 FEET!!! I didn’t polish anything. I sent it back. They came up with a good barrel and sent back shooting much better. I think that the groove diameter of their barrels are fat and all over the place. The pellets wobble down the barrel like a poorly thrown football. Again, their quality control is garbage.
Just for the record, I’m not a crosman hater. I just don’t like their poor quality control. We shouldn’t have to do their QC work for them. They should figure out which barrels are garbage and fix them the first time around before they ever leave the factory. My .25 Marauder shoots really well. But then again, it has a Green Mountain barrel in it.
You should be happy – my barrel is okay now that I have polished and recrownwed it, but it took some work to make it slightly better than mediocre. It groups well with only a couple types of pellets, and even those still get a fliers about every ten shots or so. Their barrel quality is hit and miss at best. Hopefully they will be going with LW barrels like they put on their 1701 Silhouette pistols. LW makes awesome barrels.

What barrel problems??? Mine shoots well, but I didn’t tinker with it (starling gun) & now much quieter with the Swift shroud & air-stripper.
How is that a bummer? Mine was a POS out of the box and had to be returned. I’d rather wait and get a good one than have to send it back. More importantly, crosmann is stepping up to the plate to resolve one of their many quality control problems. It would be nice if they would do that for their ENTIRE line.

Read the post . . . seems simple enough. If mine quits shooting so accurately, then maybe I’ll play with it. It’s my starling eradicator out to 25-yards or so, it kills them clean, & I rarely miss . . . if I do, it’s my fault. No point in fixing what isn’t broken . . .
Thanks for the post, Hoot.
