new hammer
just got home to find Dyotat’s hammer in the mail. can’t wait to get it in the condor. i’m officiating a charity event tomorrow, so it’ll have to wait until sunday.
i’ve got to say, it’s really nicely made. much nicer looking in person than even his pictures give credit. the man sure knows his way around a lathe.

my condor is pretty much a tack driver, as is. so, i really can’t say if there is a NOTICEABLE increase in accuracy. having said that, ANY reduction in vibration or movement during the shot cycle will increase accuracy. hope that answers your question.
It does not touch the frame.
one more question,i know it is barrel guided ,but does it come in contact with frame at all? ,just wanted to make sure. i have two scratches in my frame.and was wondering if to just get get a new frame or barrel guided hammer. thanks guys
hey im on the fence of getting one. i am getting some hammer chatter for sure i also noticed some little scrapes maybe from the hammer weight on my frame. my question is have you noticed any increase in accuracy?
ok, here’s my take on Dyotat’s hammer.
first, it is quieter. i think it has something to do with the fact that it’s got more derlin in it. that seems like it would make sense. the derlin dampens the sound and doesn’t allow as much vibration to be transferred to the brass. kind of like wrapping a towel around a brass bell.
the shot cycle seems to be smoother. i don’t see near as much vibration through the scope. ( the hammer is 95 grams, the same as my original hammer ).
shot string seems to have tightened up a little:
2300 start, 1800 finish
961,975,987,983,980,975 967,969,960,960,956,954,956,959,965,961,959,956,954,949.
overall, i’m very happy with the results.

You don’t have to put any lube on it. It is oil filled nylon. Sometimes I wipe some Rem oil on the barrel where the main part rides when puting the gun together. The breech side will get silicone from when you lube the breech o rings.
I have never had problems with one yet and if you do just let me know.

anyway, i learned a couple things about Dyotat’s hammer.
first, you can’t use dielectric grease. there’s not enough room between the hammer and barrel. you have to use liquid silicone.
second, it seemed to smooth out the shot cycle. i can’t say for sure, my battery in my chrony decided to poop. i’ll have to run some more strings to be certain. the partial string that i managed to get was in the mid to high 980’s for 11 shots. ( i nomally shoot 20 rounds to a fill ).
third, Dyotat is an extremely accomplished machinist !!! that hammer fits like a glove. all he had to go by was the measurements that i gave him. we were back and forth a couple of times by pm because he wanted to make absolutely sure that everything was the way i wanted it. he was very professional, and courteous. i can’t thank him enough for what he did for me. i would not hesitate to recommend Dyotat to anyone. PERIOD.
i’ll post some strings, when i get back, next week. looks like this is going to do just what i wanted.
yeah, it’s the barrel riding hammer. can’t wait to try it out. biggest reason i wanted one,( other than the fact that i broke my other one ), was the problem with chatter and having to tear the gun down constantly to clean the shit out of the frame left over from lubing the hammer. i’m confident that this is gonna work slicker than cat shit. 😀
