Q:

Pass through hole size

What size hole do I need for the pass through hole for a ldc/moderator
.22 cal, .25?
How about for a .25cal, .30?
Thanks, Terry

I used a .3125 (5/16) hole in my LDC’s which was good thru .25 and .281 (9/32) in my inserts… Alot has to do with how centered is your barrel in the frame and how straight is the tubing that you’re using for the shroud…

If you can find 6.5 mm metric drill bit, it makes 0.2559 exactly as you would like.

.003 to .008 over pellet seems awfully tight. But I will give it a try. I am assuming that the larger the hole, the more air gets out, which translates to more sound.

yep.. just like other good things in life, the tighter the hole, the better!

when playing with tolerances like that everything has to be lined up perfectly, so if this is your first time playing around then build it in a way that you can open the holes up if needed to keep from clipping

The shrouded barrel of my .22cal S410 and S510 is 0.345″

That is huge, I made a shroud for a break barrel with .236 hole,
I found that it was clipping and had to drill it to .276 which I think is oversized I would have got away with .256 but I didn’t find the correct bit size

3 to 8 thousands over the pellet size is all you need as long as your lathe work and assembly is tight

I think a lot depends on the shroud design, and in particular how well it holds concentricity relative to the barrel. 50% oversize seems very large . . . .

My .308 is .345″ and I have no problem. .25 is .295″ but shroud is almost twice as long. I would say it depends on how good everything lines up.

Maybe somewhere here or another forum can answer your .25cal question. Maybe even someone who owns a S510 in .25cal.

Do you know what size a .25 cal pass through hole should be?
.345 is very close to a 50% oversize, does that mean a .25 should be .375?
Thanks

The shrouded barrel of my .22cal S410 and S510 is 0.345″
