C02 PSI = Product of Degrees F + % of CO2/cu.in.

Reference purposes for the C02 users…

The Liquid Vapor Phase PSI of CO2 is a product of degrees F, plus percent of rated fill. (100% rated fill equals 7/18 oz/cu. in.)

Therefore, pellet potential FPS is directly related to CO2 gas ambient temperature, and % of rated fill.

At 100% to 40% fill, at an ambient temperature of 80%, the PSI will remain constant.

However, at an ambient temperature of 90F, a 100% fill will show a bell curve as the fill percentage decreases to 40% and lower.

At an ambient temperature of 120F, descending from 100% to 40% fill, PSI will start at 1900 PSI and drop to 1250 PSI.

What does this tell us?

1) At temperatures of 80 degrees F, your PSI will not exceed 1000 PSI. It will, however, remain constant from 100% down to 40% fill.

2) CO2 vapor pressure tends to change 200 PSI for each temperature increase/drop of ten degrees. (Given a 100% rated fill, at 30F, you are shooting at 500 PSI, while at 120F you are shooting near 1900 PSI)

3) From 80+F to 120F, the pressure will tend to rise roughly 200 PSI for each ten degrees increase in temperature.

4) A cold tank is a slow tank. Heating by some means can keep the tank’s PSI at relatively high levels during Winter shooting.

A question was asked about CO2 and degrees rated in Celsius.

Sadly, CO2 is not a metric gas, and will remain a liquid at all temperatures Celsius.
