who here shoots a talon ss in .177 and…
…what pellets does your barrel prefer? I discovered, alike all of my LW barrels, that JSB outperform Beeman every time. I was averageing 1/2″ to 3/4″ groups with the Beeman extra heavies at 25 yards. When I switeched to the JSB (7.33) I cut those groups in half.
One thing I noticed is as I got to shot 25 the groups started opening up with the JSB’s. I need to do a shot string on my chrony to see what speed this is happening at leading me to my next question for any 12″ barrel SS shooters (.177) what ideal speed have you deduced for the JSB’s?
Brown box CP’s were just as accurate as the JSB’s and they too opened up after around 25 shots.

Or you could go with one of Tony’s super modded 14″ .25 LW barrels that keep it all inside the TSS frame. Add a TT LDC and it will be almost as quite as the .177 but deliver close to 49 FPE for some real knockdown power. This has his one-piece valve, tank mod, and his brass Condor hammer. Plus a bunch more of his work as well.
Yeah…unfortunately it is the only AF tank I have right now. I will surely be removing the condor hammer weight. But it doesn’t add up to 95 grams. I think the stock hammer is around 48 grams and the weight is another 16…Something like that. Either way, the hammer alone will be fine and I can always start out on a lower fill pressure if need be.
Or mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyybe I’ll just get an 18″ .25 barrel 😈

You definitely have overkill with a Condor valve and heavy 95 gram hammer. I have one of Tony’s modded Talon tanks and use the standard AF hammer. I haven’t chronied it but it groups well at a 2700 psi fill for 20-25 shots, enough for my backyard use. Guess I need to run it through the chrony just to see what speed it’s shooting.
My Kodiaks are running about 870fps and declining.
nice looking carbine! I am running a condor valve that Tony ported and polished and a stock hammer with condor weight. I may end up removing the condor weight depending on how much adjustment I will have with the preload.
The CP’s I had were brown box and they were just under 8 grains. I might have to try those heavier ones you are talking about.
It will be quieter too. It’s important to me since my TSS is my stealth rig for small pests without alerting the neighbors. I also have one of Subsonic’s inserts as well. I just got some CPH 10.4, I might run those through the chrony and shot a few groups to see how they do since you mentioned it.

I was shooting the Beeman heavies 1080. I think they are a tad over 10 grains…When I switched to the lighter stuff I took off half of my preload and had a lower start pressure. So 820 to 880…that sounds pretty good. I will get to it soon and get this rig dialed in!

Groups will open up as the pressure drops. For me this happens around 2000psi after shooting down from 2700psi. A chronograph will help you correlate speed, pressure, and power wheel settings.
Yes, thanks…I was just curious to see what “ideal” speed for the JSB’s as every pellet prefers a certain speed. From the small amount of testing I did with this talondor I found the drop of 30 to 60 fps opened up the groups a bit with the Beeman extra heavies. It prefered 1050 over 980 to 1000.
I am deducing from the sound of the report that I was around 2000 psi when the groups started opening up. I will do some chrony testing next chance I get.

Now that is a good looking .25 😎 The entire idea of my build was to have a pcp in .177 to complete (minus .20) the circle. I have one in .177, .22, and .25 now. This way, when the world comes to an end, and I raid the local Wally world after all the masses wiped out the shelves and since died off or have been eaten by zombies…I’ll have a 1 in 3 chance of walking away with some usable pellets! 😀
1 in 2 that is as I don’t think my wally world (or any) stock .25….
