Fine white dust from shroud vents?
My R-3 .22 sheds small amounts of very fine white dust from the pinhole vents in the shroud near the breech end of the barrel. Clean it off, and after after another shooting session, it’s there again. The EdGun is the only PCP that I have that does this.
What’s up?

John, I have a FX Royale 400 22 cal and it doesn’t have the rear vents so, no air/lead dust/lube can come out at the back of the moderator. I don’t know about the HW and AA guns. If they have a dead space behind the baffles, they must not have any holes at the end of the shroud or, you would see the dust on them also.
On the Matador, there is a large dead space behind the first baffle and the high pressure air can expand into that dead space. That “dead” space is behind the baffle, is 6”-8” long and that space allows the air to expand and lose pressure. The dead space has 6 holes that allow pressure to exit. There will be some “dust” that comes out of the shrouds holes; it can be easily wiped off.
The purpose of any silencer/LDC/moderator/shroud is to allow the high pressure air/gasses to lose energy by expanding/contracting them in the baffles, thereby slowing them down and losing energy until they finally reach the end of the device. Noise is energy and the energy that is lost allows the final report to be lessened.
It is the same principal that a car muffler uses. Have you ever had a muffler fall off of your car?
Increasing the internal volume of your sound reduction device will reduce the noise/report that is emitted, IF it is correctly designed.
All that being said, I think that a lot of the white dust is caused by pellet lube that comes on the pellets from the factory.
