Mrod barrel bushing…how does it come off?
I’m making my .25 Marauder a bit shorter and I need to get that barrel bushing off the end so I can reuse it.
Has anyone ever managed to get one off without ruining it?
If I have to I can buy a new one, but reuse of the old one is my first desire.

You want I should send you the end piece I cut off my tack driving Green Mountain barrel? It’s only six inches long, but it’s the choked end!!!
Got to be better than what you’ve got!

Thanks RJ, that’s what I thought. Still, the GM barrel is a good deal. I am pleased with the accuracy of my stock .25 Marauder barrel. But then again, I’m not that good of a shot…”a man’s got to know his limitations”. I enjoy your classes and tutorials Uncle Hoot. I would like more power from my .25 M-rod…say 950fps with 31gr Kodiaks, but that’s just trying to keep up with Tofaz’s Rapid. My gun does 850 with the KOdiaks and that’s good enough for me. I have come to shoot .25 JSB Kings at 875+ fps. The fly very straight and that works for me for what I do with it.

You’d have to inquire at the Crosman web site regarding that information. I’m fairly certain the barrel has been choked, as I have spoken to several individuals who have cut off a few inches from the tip and achieved better accuracy.
Choked is not necessary a good thing, provided you are choosing the right sized pellet heads.
I’ve gone to 14″ on that barrel. I’ve had very good results with that length. Power is primarily a function of the valve. Length contributes more effective air usage, and a higher fps in the larger calibers. A more powerful valve will match the velocity gains, but will require a bit more air consumption.
Accuracy is a function of the barrel quality. A 12″ barrel will shoot as accurately as a 24″ barrel. Strange, but true. Will most individuals shoot a 12″ barrel as accurately as a 24″ barrel? No, they won’t. But they are the variable in that equation, not the barrel. Put both barrels in a vice and you should see identical results.
Dependent upon pellet weight, greater length only secures a longer, more efficient, exposure to the propellent, and provides a more stable sighting platform, especially with iron sights. Beyond that, it’s simply more weight and length to carry.
I’ve read these facts several times on this forum, and have found them to be quite true.

The Green Mountain, .25 caliber barrel is $12? Is it choked?
I’ve heard many reports of accuracy improvement from removing the choke from the Marauder barrel.
At a cost of approximately $12 per barrel, I can afford to take the risk. I’ve done it before, and polished and crowned the end. Accuracy didn’t suffer a bit.

Hi Uncle Hoot, I think that Green Mountain barrel is choked. From which end do you plan on shortening it from? …or are you just going to take a chunk from the middle? 😉 My .25 Marauder is so accurate that I can’t imagine doing anything to it. It is long and heavy to the point that it reminds me of a Mauser, just alot quieter and without the recoil.

I did as you mentioned, after heating the bushing with a hair dryer, and it popped right off and usable again with a touch of loc-tite.

Put the barrel in a vice. Find an allen wrench that will fit in the vent holes. Push through the 2 aligning holes and twist off. Works like a charm for me

My gun only shoots good in the 880 range for 1 mag. I see everyone else shooting 50- 100yds with like 3 mags with no change in poi. Its all good. Soon ill get a 24in lw for it. I have the shroud ext and air tube ext.
