Q:

.22 vs .25 18” barrel

I’ve got all the valve parts, frame etc., necessary to build another gun (like I need another ). I have everything except a barrel. I’ve got a .22 and a .25 wearing a 24” barrel and a .22 SS and love ‘em.

I’ve never toyed with an 18” barrel. I THINK I’d like to use an 18” barrel in this rifle if nothing else, just to keep the OAL down.

So those of you with eighteen inches of experience 😯 which way would you go?

The .25 barrel questions—

Talon valve 18” .25 barrel

Will the Talon valve allow enough air to push 28g pellets 850+ fps and still allow for more FPS if I wanted to up the pellet weight?

Condor valve 18” .25 barrel
Is the Condor valve a waste of air on the end of a .25 18” barrel?

The .22 barrel questions —

Talon valve 18” .22 barrel
Will the Talon valve push 21g pellets at 850+ fps without maxing out the tophat and hammer spring preload adjuster (i.e. power wheel)?

Condor valve 18” .22 barrel
Will the Condor valve overpower the .22 18” barrel?

Thanks for your input…
I would just hate to spend $175 and say, “Damnit!!:x I should have got the other one!!

With Dyotats valve in my Talon SSS and a 17 inch dechoked 25 barrel, I push 74 grains to 125 FPE and 56 grains to 100 FPE.

I get around 10 shots at what I consider a close string, but as far as field accuracy, I can hit a 8 inch disc at 100 yards 20 times with this combo on one fill.

I would put my money on the 25.

Thanks! Got mine from Walt also. He does a number on them. Sorry to hear about Assman’s troubles though. At 50 it’s prob 40 shots for me too. You can go about 50fps spread according to Chairgun. I also did some polishing of the barrel and valve parts. I widened the ports a tad on the valve stem also. And my valve return spring retainer is screwed all the way in with a stock High Flo valve spring. And 90 duro urethane breach orings. She’s a hunter for sure!!!

Nice String there B-Boy! 😉 😀

I have a 21″ bbl in mine from walt-in-H. Love the way it shoots!

Cant really say what the top hat is set at, as I have a thick but soft “O” under the top hat, and a custom hammer with no idea of the weight. I have two custom hammers here, and using the lightest one.

I keep it set at around 800-910 fps, and get 30-35 shots before any drop on the 80 yard range. At 50 yards I can go 40-45 easily. 😀

i just did a .25 in 24″ vs a .22 in 12″ on my youtube channel lol

quote knifemaker:

18″ barrel. in .22 with talon valve. 850, Yes.

Condor valve not needed in 18″ .22 for 850

.25 18″ barrel. Use condor valve, with top hat set very low, giving good shot count.

Talon valve in same .25 barrel.? Probably not. It would be a stretch. If it would shoot at 850, with the .25, you would have to max out the power wheel. Large top hat gap, and port the talon valve. Easier to go with a condor valve in the first place. 😉

What Mike said about the .25 18″ and a Condor valve. I have that setup. Fill to 2650psi. TH setting at .051″. I have a 85 gr hammer with stock spring on setting 1/13. My end psi is 2100. 30 shots. 30fps spread. 880-910-880. This is with JSB 25.4 gr. Once I got it here I haven’t touched it lol =)

Wolfeman, I have the exact same set up and with JSBs 15.9 I get the same results. I agree, this is a great configuration….

With 18″ .22 barrel, Talon valve, Condor hammer weight and PW set at 0/0, I’ts shooting 15.9 JSBs at about 910 fps with a very decent shot count. Accuracy is very good. Range is excellent, 125 yards is a 4 dot holdover at 10x, on a 25 yard zero. Best thing is that an 8″ TT shroud fits over the 3/4″ of the barrel that sticks out of the Condor frame and quiets it down very nicely. It’s my favorite setup so far.
