Q:

Valve disassembly

I am trying to take apart the CO2 adapter for a rebuild. How is the tophat removed from the stem? I have removed the set screws and the tophat screws out just so far then stops, which leads me to believe that this is not the way it is removed.

you saved me more than $10, $15 plus shipping on Jim site. I’ll get the stop collar.

thanks

My valve removal tool is a 1.25″ stop collar and a 3/8×3.5″ bolt with the threads removed from the end. I think it cost me around $4 total.

Wolfeman, yes you did help, thanks.

The top hat assembly can be removed by simply putting a flat blade screwdriver under it and gently prying upwards. Once it comes up a little bit just pull it the rest of the way out. To take the rest of the assembly apart, you’ll need a valve removal tool. Available from Marmot Militia and others. Hope this helps. 😀
