Q:

Shooting at 150 yards in the rain and wind at 35 degrees

Is just no fun at all.

Things like fill pressures and velocity go in the toilet.

But it did give me more exercise today in addition to this mornings 300 pushups.

The target was hard to paint from last time due to it being wet from the rain and the paint being cold, which also made taking pictures difficult.

I was shooting the 257420 cast from 25% Lyman #2 and pure lead. The gauge said 3900 PSI but in 35 degree weather who knows what that means.

Drop should have been 8.5 inches but it was 13.

But enough of the bitching, I got 5, 3 shot groups before a squal came thru and sent bullet awry. They measured 1.57, 2.05, 2.20, 2.25, 2.21.

The gun really wants to shoot, it just need better weather for the shooter.

Roachcreek

OG,

Glad you finally cast up some bullets. See, its not hard at all. There is just a lot of little secrets that you gotta learn…

πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€ OG your kill’n me! πŸ˜†

RC, Your becoming the long range Artillery Master!

Mike

I hope your shitting me about eating and doing that.

But at our advanced age, who would notice if we kill a major part of our brain off. πŸ˜†

RC

Nope, no blisters!

I was more than a little apprehensive about giving it a try. It turned out to be a lot easier than I expected except it was a little hard using my bulky welding gloves to eat a sandwich and drink a couple of beers while casting. I kept forgetting to raise my face shield and kept spilling my beer and smearing the sandwich all over it. 😳

Here is a picture of my basement’s built in stainless steel barbeque grill with the stainless vent hood. I did some internal duct work and boxed in the casting area just to be sure that I had adequate ventilation.

Why Tedd, what are all those blisters on you face?

Have you caught herpes face from you lead pot? πŸ˜›

JUst remember to make sure those WW are very dry when you add them to th epot.

Also the dross you take off the pot is the most toxic, so don’t add it in your fruit cake recipe.

Merry Christmas Tedd,

Roachcreek

Come-on Charlie; don’t you have a window that faces your range that you can open?

Maybe slide a table up to it and roll a couple of towels up for a gun rest? Maybe drag the Mercedes inside?

I want more groups!

If you never hear from me again, it will be because of a terrorist attack or, I blew myself up attempting to do my first lead casting early Christmas day.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Years to you and yours Charlie and also to all of the other demented people here on the TAG!

Thats what we do waste lead and air, great shots RC and I commend you on your efforts, Merry Christmas !

Adam,

Yeah it took months and many pounds of alloy for the AirForce platform to get the accuracy the Haley is producing right from the start.

I want to shoot it but in this weather I am pretty much wasting lead and air.

Perhaps we will have a break in the weather….around July.

RC

nice groups under bad weather charlie. πŸ˜‰
id be well happy with that fella

Tedd,

Just make sure they are dry and melt them the way they are.

Put in plenty of fluxing materal and if it smokes light it to burn it off.

I am sure you know this, but at one time I did not and put in wet wheeweights into the melted wheelweights, it explodes from the steam and willl completley empty the pot.

I bet you are bored.

Charlie

Lookin really good, Charlie!

The weather here is really crappy but, if I had my .257 bull pup Boss going, I would be out trying some groups also. I have Sun, Mon and Tuesday off and I am bored out of my mind! These 3 days off are the first day off since Thanksgiving day and, I currently don’t have anything that I can shoot!

Still waiting for the Hart barrels and for either of my lost Rotometals lead shipments to show up. Yesterday, I did have a guy give me around 100 pounds of wheel weights that he had left outside for a few years. They are really nasty looking, I might try washing them in dishwashing soap and scrubbing them with a wire brush. As they are right now, I think that I would end up with more dross than lead in my Lee melting pot.

I thought that I could use my 3 days off to try to learn how to cast pure lead bullets. 😑

Keep shooting and posting, that way I will at least have some groups to look at! πŸ˜†

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and yours!
