The best cast bullet barrel for 25 cal long range shooting
Haley is going to be producing a 1-10 twist 25 caliber TJ barrel as an opiton in the future.
They have experimented with a 42 inch barrel in 25 bore and made 325 FPE.
He owns the the mandrel and has exclusive right, so your not going to be buying one in the near future unless you have a rifle made up by Haley or you buy a barrel from him.
Borrowing from Tedds experince and my own, this is what I would do if I just had to have the best long range 25.
I would start with a Haley rifle like I have.
Then I would order a Hart barrel, looks like 30 inches is the longest they make, in a 1-10 inch twist . Hart has a gunsmithing shop and they will turn the barrel down for you, thread it and chamber it so that it would screw directly onto the Haley Scandalous.
While waiting for Hart to make the barrel, you buy a Hocke 257/tapered/105 grain/nose pour mold, I had one in 459, it was the best made, finest shooting, easiest to cast perfect bullets with I ever had. I used to sort to + or- 1 grain on 550 grain slugs and still run 40 % keepers.
The next step is to cast a few sample bullets, send them to JGS Reamers here on the Oregon coast, and have them make a reamer for that bullet. I had JGS make the 45 2.6 reamer for my Sharps rifles, it is good for around 10 jobs.
You send the reamer to Hart and you have them cut the lead in the barrel before shipping.
All this will cost 700.00 or so.
A less expensive route and still have good quaility is to start with the Haley/TJ and still do the Hocke mold and JGS Reamer. With the Haley TJ 1-10 combination you get a barrel over 30 inches and you have Jack do it all.
This may sound like whole hell of alot of money, but it still comes in less than 2 grand, and when you consider the finshed product, your still at the 30 FX Boss price range or a little over if you go the Hart route and a little under if you go the Haley/TJ route and have a far more effective LR rifle.
Just my ideas, any thoughts on this?

My bad. I was thinking he was talking about .250″. I tend to scroll thru and miss somethings because I’m on my iPhone out of town.
But I’m still using the .25 auto barrel for people that want to shoot slugs and be able to shoot pellets.
Jack is already using the .25 auto barrel. It is 1-14 twist. Hunters supply sells bullets for it at .251″
RC is going to use the Hoch 258/250 bullet so there is no reason to use the pistol barrel. He did start the thread about a .25 bore and Not the .243″ bore.
But if you are happy with pistol bullets then hair on you. To get the most out of the caliber the rifle dims could prove worthwhile.
He has a .25 auto barrel that is .243/.250. That is the barrel I will be using for my next .25 build. Will be able to shoot Jerry’s slugs.

THAT is what a .25 caliber barrrel measures for powder burner bullets.
That is a .257 barrel. The .25 measurses .243/.250.
TJ’s already make the .25 with a 1-10 twist. Liner 25-35 is 250/257 1:10 1/2″ o.d.
Well we will find out how the tapered bullets work soon.
I just odered a Hocke, nose pour, tapered mold, .258/250 diameter, and handles, it will go out Monday.
This is from CPARIFLES.com, they make the reproduction Stevens 44 and 44 1/2 rilfes, but do not make the molds themselves.

We are shooting PB bullets in a PB barrel now. What do you think they would do different?
I can see if you were shooting pellets and were looking for a better choked barrel.
“Airgun barrel”= land/groove/twist with sub-sonic/trans-sonic velocity rifle boolits in mind…..nothing more nothing less.

Have you considered dropping by the Oregon Barrel Company (same people as TheGunWorks) to have a chat about airgun barrels? He was open to the idea several years ago.

Yep. I will not make anymore .25 slug guns with LW barrels. I’m going to do a .25 slug gun here sortly for a member with one. My last LW barrel with no choke that drops in my .257 is .2534″.
I own a .308 1-14 4 grove mandrel a TJ’s also. Mike is really nice to deal with and will make what ever you want.

YEah, i also was under the impression that TJ Already made a 1-10 twist 257 barrel.
By the way, from here on out, can we start calling the 25 cal PELLET barrel the “250 or 251” and the 25 cal BULLET barrel the “257”.
It makes it less confusing when someone states which one they are talking about. To just say, “i got a 25 cal TJ barrel” doesn’t narrow it down.
