Q:

What The Hell Is This?

The USPS lost both of my Rotometals 53 pound pure lead orders. I tracked one down and, after 7 weeks, I finally got it last week.

After work, I pulled into my driveway and saw another USPS box sitting on my front porch. The only thing that I currently have on order is 2 more LBT molds. Couldn’t wait to get the box into the house, I cut into it outside.

The outside of the box had a note: We’re sorry that your article was damaged during processing. My address label was hand written and has also been stamped, in red letters; Found Loose In The Mail.

The box contained 2 of bars like the one on the left in the picture. The “mystery Metal” weighs 3 pounds; the chunk of lead on the right is 7 pounds.

I can’t scratch it with a sharp knife. The bars look like they could have been pressure cast in a 2 piece horzontally split mold.

The bars measure 1.393″ thick, 2.318″ wide and 4.265″ long. They both have grinding/smoothing marks half way up their height and the grind marks have the same color as the rest of the bar so, the bar has not been painted/anodized.

Have any of you casters ever seen any kind of metal that looks like this. I have talked to Rotometals and then sent them an email with a picture of the bar.

They currently have no clue as to what it is.

It says MIR on it; could it be part of the old Soviet Space Station?

Tedd,

We have a two person, read that two 50 year old women post office.

When my orders from Rotometals get in, which I meticulisly track as I do all orders, I show up at the posot office, they let me into their inner santum and I carry the package out, which is too heavy for them to be lifting anyway.

And they think it is wonderful that I cast my own air gun fodder.

And yes, I know how very forutnate I am.

I have had excellent results with FedEx. Never lost or damaged a package (touch wood). Could you insist that your supplier use FedEx instead of USPS? In any case, good luck.

And I’m coming to visit! Woo-Hoo!!! 😀

Charlie, the post office would have done nothing without me being a huge pain in their ass! To me, my losing around $120 wasn’t a big deal, the way that the post office didn’t seem to give a fuck about the whole deal really pissed me off!

It was a huge hassle to get my second order found and finally delivered to me.

Both of my Rotometals orders made it to the USPS hub in Hazlewood Mo in 2 days. According to the USPS tracking site, the first shipment left the Hazlewood facility and then, it just vanished! The second shipment made it there also and then was sent to the “Dead Mail/Mail Recovery Center”. The order was boxed up in Hazelwood, about 140 miles from me, and then it was sent to Atlanta Georgia.

I spent a few hours on the phone trying to track something down without any luck. I went to the local Post Office and the Post Master there had me fill out a mail recovery form that he faxed to Atlanta.

A few days later, I got a call from a lady in Atlanta. She said that they had found 2 “bricks” one was stamped South and the other West. She wanted to know if those 2 bricks were what I was waiting for. I told her that this order was my first/second order from Rotometals and I didn’t know what the 2, 26 pound ingots of lead looked like as I had never received either of my orders. The lady said that she would call Rotometals and try to find out what they sent.

The story gets better: DEDE; at Rotometals had called me earlier that morning and told me that she was going to send me a third order by UPS, just to be sure that I would get my order! She said that she sent me an email with the UPS tracking number. I was impressed by that! Customer service like that is rapidly becoming unheard of these days!

DEDE called me after talking to the lady in Atlanta and she said that my lead had been found but, the 1 pound of pure tin was missing. She would ship the tin that day by UPS.

I got the tin in 4 days and the lead took 2 weeks to make it here from Atlanta.

Today, I got the 2 MIR weights for a MIR weight vest. I am going to take them up to the Post Office and tell the Post Master that the 2 “bricks” that were lost were Gold colored. I will leave the 2 MIR weights with him and let him figure out whom to send them to.

As fucked up as the post office seems to be when handling heavy and dense materials, I might end up with 2, 26.5 pound gold ingots!

If I can get the post office to ship me 53 pounds of gold with a current value of $1,397,249, I won’t be posting here again until I can get moved and set up in a country that doesn’t extradite to the US!

I’m thinking of a small villa, internet access and a 1,000 yard range right out of my back door!

Tedd,

Looks like USPS is trying, but still have not connected you to your order yet.

RC

No problem!

Hey RJ——That was quick!

Thanks!

I did a google search for mir and they r weights for a mir weighted vest. The print looks identical to what is on their weights
