Need some help in raising the temp of my RCBS pro melt. It has a temp dial that goes from 650-850. I would like to be able to turn it up to 950.

What could be done? I’m going to take it apart and see what’s in it that controls temp. It is a 800w pot and I know it can get hotter. My lee is a 700 w and it would go 1100+ if you didn’t watch it.

If you have an ohm meter you can measure the resistance of the rheostat or potentiometer. You will want to replace it with one that provides a greater range with less resistance at the end.

Thanks. It’s different from the lee pot because it has a temp prob and the dial is temp based. I will take the rivits out tomorrow and take a look

yep, would be a different RHEOSTAT.

A RHEOSTAT controls CURRENT. Current is AMPS. Amps make that element /pot HOT or HOTTER!

I don’t know much about Lead pots and all that but i figure a bigger RHEOSTAT would allow you to TURN up the heat. you will also need a thermometer if you don’t already have one.

Or you could just go to PROPANE like RC

Doug, u may be able to change the rheostat. I think thats what its called.
