TD257 Improved and 1st groups at 100 yards

A little detail for now but much more to come later.
Doug finished my 53ci bottle and valve. Its all new from the ground up. NO FACTORY OEM PARTS anywhere in the bottle now!
1010 FPS with 74 gr Lyman 257420 bullets. 875-880 FPS with 101 gr Spitzers by RJ Porter and the same fps with UNREPENTANTSINNER’s Hoch 108 gr FP bullets. That’s 168 FPE for the 74 gr FPS and 185 FPE with the heavier 100-108 gr bullets. And the new bottle will make the exact same power for over 5 shots with no decrease.
The OEM bottle with better valve stem made 900 fps and 133 FPE with the 74 gr LYMAN bullets and 820 FPS and 150 FPE with RJ Porters 101 gr Spitzers for only close to 2-3 shots and not as consistent.
So in all, that’s a 2-3 shot improvement as well as a 110 fps gain with the 74 gr bullets and 55-60 fps improvement with the Heavier bullets. The FPE gains between old and new bottles are, 35 FPE for the 74’s and 30 FPE with the heavier bullets.
And just to clarify, the improvements in shot counts are not total shots but shots with the most consistency before the numbers start to fall off more than 5-10 fps per shot. So far, i’m up to 20 shots with the new bottle off 1 fill with no signs of tank dump. AGAIN, this is a “SMALL” Big bore and not meant for 30 shots per fill or anywhere close. Needless to say, it’s all been worth it and i’m very impressed with not only the gun but with Doug’s work on it.
***BTW*** I MANAGED TO SHOOT A SMALL ROCK FACE AT 402 LASERED YARDS WITH SOME GREAT CONSISTENCY FOR HOW I WAS HOLDING THE GUN. PRETTY SOON, I THINK I’M GONNA GO FOR A COKE CAN AT 400 YARDS WITH AN AIRGUN SHOT….LOL! SERIOUSLY, I AM!

How big of a tank? $222.00 for 80 cf last time I checked and if I didn’t have a tank they wouldn’t even sell to me
2000 on helium would be good, the gun is tuned to it, 78.00 a fill down here as of Valantines Day.
Yes you have to use a booster pump to get 3000 psi in your tank. It seems to get decent shot count on the .25 but I don’t shoot it that much any more to really know.
I would think with the right valving system designed for helium would produce a decent shot count.
The “balloon” tanks around here are 2kpsi.
I’ll double check but I think she said 2000 psi.

Just asking. How much PSI is in a helium tank at a party store? Always wondered that.
Also, Calif. is MUCH different then Florida. I just know that here, it has become harder to get as well as more expensive.
HELL, a few years ago when i first got into casting bullets, i went and got my tires changed on my truck and i asked the guys at the tire store for lead wheel weights and they all (4) just laughed at me. I asked “WHAT”? They said, “DUDE, CALI HAS BANNED LEAD ON WHEEL WEIGHTS FOR YEARS! THEY R ALL STEEL NOW”?! I asked “WHY”? They said cause the pencil pushers and tree huggers determined that the wheel weights fall off of tires and go down the storm drains. Which of course goes out to the ocean.
So unlike many of you, it did NOT surprise me that Calif has upped the price and or banned Helium! It altering your voice when you inhale it has a LOT to do with it according to them……..lol! I’M SURE…..lol!

That’s a good question. Doug will have to confirm but i believe he said that because the molecules or HELIUM are much smaller and travel faster than regular air, that you use more of it per shot cause more of it escapes out down the valve and barrel during each shot.
Actually makes since that it would be a little more wasteful than HPA. But i also think this….if HELIUM were to be used, the timing of the valve stem (open/close) and hammer would have to be SUPER TUNED for the faster flowing Helium. Any little hammer bounce would become “EXTREMELY” wasteful. At least i would think……………… ❓
Man helium sounds like the future of airguning. Is the shot count comparable?
Just checked with my friend who has a party store and she said that her helium fills have gone up but not by that much. She said it went up around 30.00 for a fill.
They been doing the same thing with hot air and bullshit for 200 years.

Mike, as I understand it the U.S Gov’ used to pretty much have it all. They then decided to flood the market and sell it all off. Now it’s all gone and it costs a fortune. It was possible to recycle it, but because the Gov’ had flooded the market with it, there was no point so no one did….
