reg/tophat setting
Hallo,
I just installed a reg on my condor and am very happy with it. Very consitent. But there is one thing I am wondering about. Can you turn the tophat down to save air (without losing power) or does’nt it work like that with a regulator. I know I could try, but I glued the tophat in place before I used the reg. So it would save me a lot pumping and fiddling if someone could help me on this.
I shoot 24 shots at 42fpe, from 3000 down to 2000psi

Surely that’s, Hello…hello….hello…..?
😆
Hello——Hello——Hello——– 😕 😆
Is there an echo in here?
Look at the thread below this one… I posted it yesterday. Not sure if it’s ready for the market or what….
PB, check out what I just posted under “other guns” A Reg and Bottle combo! Man it looks good! 😀
Knife
Dang ,,,
Your right Knife. a whole year
guess i am the one waisting air
This is something that i plan on doing if i ever get a reg set up,
I think that further tuning of the power wheel and oring use will greatly or at least somewhat increase consistency using it with the reg set up .
just like has been said, your reg is 2000 psi , you should still be able to tune your fps with a oring and power wheel, up and down to a point , with the lighter pellets any way,
i use a 2000 fill for most of my lighter pellet shooting , only filling to a higher point with heavier than 14 grain pellets, 2300 to 2400 with 18 to 21 grain pellets, and 2800 with 28 and 32 grain pellets , this is without reg,
i do know that fill pressures do not follow over to reg out put pressures accurately, they are slightly different for similar performance.
don’t know your caliber or pellet weight , but it seems your not getting allot of shots for air pressure used, but 42 ft #’s is quite a bit of power your at being the reason i suppose your using this kind of air
ill give you a quick comparison with some of my tuning, with 32 grain eunjins , at 62 foot pounds or there about.
this particular string is 17 shots,
2300psi start, top hat .095 with .071 thick oring, power wheel 6
897,940,909,935,927,926,928,934,915,937,936,932,930,930,930,919,917 ,End pressure 2050
this is about 14 psi a shot for 60 foot pounds
this set up is good for 1/2″ 50 yard groups.in my gun
your using 23 psi for 42 foot pounds, this is why i think you can tune and get better performance from your set up,
But like was also said, your running a shorter barrel also, i am running a 24”
any way,food for thought
i still think that you can tighten up your tune with a oring and fine tuning of the power wheel
Wow! almost a year for a reply. Been locked up? 😆

If I’m not mistaken the reg holds a certain pressure in its chamber. The top hat is what allows that air to escape. So yes the regs job is to regulate air pressure and it does but turning your top hat for a proper tune as well will help with excess waste and use of air and should also give more consistency. The reg will provide same volume of air until it drops under reg, the top hat will allow for more finer tuning. Turn pw to zero and shoot through a chrony. If your reg is already set at output pressure you want don’t adjust it but rather your top hat for more crude adjustments. Do this until you get the fps range your looking for and than tune further adjusting your pw. Try putting something under the tophat (oring) when tuning to save escaping wasted air.
Bottom line like mr. Newbie said, without a chrony trying to make these adjustments and tune properly is going to leave you grey and nothing but annoyed
Simple enough to figure out…
You need a Crony.
Keep turning down the reg till your speed drops. No sence spitting out more air for the same speed. Find the drop point, then turn the tophat out 1/4 turn. But I don’t think it will make much diff, thats the regs job..to provide the same volume of air every shot. You might get another 5-10 shots in your string.
I would think with the shorter barrel needs less air as it will waste alot chasing the pellet. Shorter barrel means less power. If you want the same power then it will be air hungry.
19 inch barrel will still waste air if you want the same power. That’s why the longer(24″) barrels are used. Less air for more power….
I installed one of these: http://www.altaros.cz/en/
I use the bottle now in both my guns. The reg is set at 2000psi and I fill the bottle to 3000psi. The valve is TT
1st set-up is a 19 inch .25 barrel and it gives me 867 ft/s(kings) with a max deviation of 3ft/s for 24 shots before the pressure drops below 2000psi.
2nd set-up is an 8 inch .22 barrel, 730 ft/s with jsb jumbo. Same deviation, didn’t tried yet for how many shots, but I guess about the same from the other one.

would think so. It works on some guns with Reg’s. What kind did you install. How is the shot string? We want to know!!! 😀
