Q:

I’d like opinions about mods to get

I’ve been going over the possible mods for my Talon SS, and I have some questions. Mine is .177 and I plan on using it for quiet target shooting. I’m not looking to do every upgrade possible. I do have experience with scuba and rebuilding paintball markers, which helps some.

1)I’ve seen some people put a full stock on their guns, and others use the WOK guard and butt (both works of art) with AR15 grip. It looks both options have a similar cost in the end, so any opinions about the two? Weight, height, stability, etc.?

2)I do want it to be quiet, so I’ll probably get the vented front bushing if I find it again online. I may even vent the frame. Of course I’ll get the shroud baffles from Home Depot.

3)Trigger, safety and sear mods. I plan on getting a Stainless Steel pin (size?) and brass washers to remove some trigger wiggle. What’s the sear mod of choice? I’m not afraid to work on it myself and I have lots of small files and calipers.

4)Hammer slap mod, brass hammers on ebay, etc. Comments?

5)My tank is out of hydro. Anyone know where to send it? My LDS (local dive shop) is checking with the local place but it’s unlikely. I emailed the place suggested by Airforce and got no reply.

I have removed the tank cover and the valve. Anything I really should do to the valve while it’s out? Should I consider the o-ring upgrade and 1pc tophat mods?

Thanks in advance. Hopefully one day I can contribute and return the favor.

I have paintball tanks in 8/3000, 13/3000 and 22/3000, but since they have paintball regs I’m guessing they are regulated to around 850psi?

Some brands of tanks can be shimmed up to a higher pressure.
This is best a job left to a pro..ask your local paintball shop if they can up the pressure.. If you are shooting off these tanks now, then indeed you are shooting around 850psi. Setting the pressure at the 1400 to 1600psi range will get you more power. But its still not as good as a JDS or Etac, or other regulator setup just for airguns.

But for 10bucks for a shim kit and a 20 bucks at your local paintball shop..its worth playing with.

Don’t get all hung up on the more power thing..860 to 900fps is what your goal should be. I doubt you can reach 900 with a 12″ .177 barrel. If you really NEED more power, get a 24″ .22 or .25 barrel. Then all the other stuff comes into play.

A nice backyard friendly accurate .177 at 800fps is a good thing.

If you already have the CO2 adapter, you can pick up a regulated 13 or 22 CU.IN. HPA bottle from someone like Expert HPA, or JDS Airman regulated anywhere from 1400 -1800 or higher is needed. I have a 1600 I use sometimes with my 22 barrel and regular old Crosman 14.3’s. Here’s a shot string so you can see the benefit:

Air Source 13 CuIn 1600 PSI Regulated Tank
Chrony Test – #1
Shot # Enter Velocity fps
1 734
2 731
3 737
4 730
5 731
6 732
7 730
8 734
9 730
10 730

Average: 732 SD: 1.88 That makes for a nice tight string, and it still produces 17 ftlb of energy. I know that may not be a lot, but if I want more power, I switch back to the regular bottle. On a 177 gun, this might just be what your looking for.

Mr. N included the responses with my questions. Thanks for the tips, very helpful stuff.

I’ll be back with more questions, you haven’t seen the last of me.

Oooh… now I want a knife…

Looks like Mr. N. forgot to respond after pasting what was already here? 😕

About time Spanish J. posted results on the Reg. Been waiting for a LONG time, with nothing in his post as promised? Still waiting on a string! 😉

My 2 cents worth.

These guns have frame flex, for best accuracy the full stock is the best way to go, I sure like those expensive mad dog stocks..i don’t even have one.

Get a vented front bushing if I can find it online? Why bother there is one on your barrel now..vent it yourself..small drill bit and a drill..done..frame too! You can make a decent shroud yourself that works pretty well, but If you really want mouse fart quiet then buy one from TT or GTBJ, or several others on this board..they have been making them for years and have it down to a science. Make one yourself on the cheap..then if still not happy buy one.

The sear mods on this board or mostly, tear apart, polish everything, some put in lighter springs..put back together. If you have side to side wobble..put your spacer washers in. Many remove the crummy safety.

4)Hammer slap mod, brass hammers on ebay, etc. Comments?

If you aheva TSS then you only have a 45gm hammer weight I think.
The Condor has the same 45grain wieght and a 25 grain added spacer.

A 110 grain hammer weight is not what you need UNLESS you are going for a power build. If your just going for a back yard plinker, then a little 45-65 grain barrel riding hammer is all you need..with slap mod for quiet.

Only if you want more power..port out the tophat a little.

All depends on what you want, to me a nice little quiet gun that spits em out at 900fps is perfect.

If ur wanting for target I would regulate it I have a lord altos which is adjustable I use it on .25 and sends 20 gr at about 870, there are others, I got a barrel riding brass hammer and breach from eBay very good, well made. Look at tonys tank angle adaptor will help a lot with shouldering. There are loads of ideas andkits out there have fun.

buy what u can afford one step at a time.
