Why?

Why go through all this trouble and only test to under ten yards?

Sure they group pellet on pellet at ten yards but so does almost every other rifle, including a Gamo POS with gold plated POS pellets.

Why lower the pressure to under 1300 psi to get the pellets to group well at ten yards. POI drop at thirty and fifty yards would be more then a scope can handle. What do you shoot at ten yards and why is it so small you need to stack pellets?

A good shooting rifle and pellet should stack’em at thirty yards with sub 0.375″ groups at fifty benched. Testing under ten yards is POINTLESS, you might as well test pellets at 1000 yards too. 🙄

I think if you read thru the garbage Jerry he probably means the pressure that gives the best velocity for the given pellet.

“Magic presure,” what BS. There’s no freaking magic in ballistics. AND, having 2 points where you can stack pellets at close range does not mean you can find any “magic” pressure for accurately shooting any other pellet.

Oh, who decided a vice grip was the most accurate possible way to shoot a rifle? We have barrel weights and dampers and different bedding or floating methods to deal with barrel harmonics but we’re just going to assume that bolting down the stock is a good idea?

I hate these expert style videos where the “expert” doesn’t even know the assumptions he’s made or fails to articulate them and then goes on to draw conclusions far beyond what his observations support.

They are probably well meaning people but there’s a reasone scientists and programmers and other professionals have settled into a peer review process before making proclamations on what they’ve found or done…

i think its quick efficient valve timing, he gets it closed quickly, and the hammer strike is tuned perfectly. no extra room in between that valve and the back of the pellet either.

thats some super effeicent numbers, the best i have been able to get with the condor is 3.98 cfm per shot for 175 shots, with 14 grain pellets in the 500 to 600 fps range

i still want to see if i could get a 177 to do better

Mike, the actual credit for the design and tuning goes to ld Larry Durham.
He gave Tim the commercial rights to manufacture and sell the rifles. ld is the man behind that kit.

Well shit a regulator in the rifle would be great, I don’t think a regulator feeding the air tube would do anything to even out shot velocity variations though.

I think his rig can be set up in the back of a pickup truck, oh wait, if that was the case he would be shooting it at more than ten yards!! 😯

You just get tons of more shots doing the buddy bottle thing and need the reg to keep from overfilling the gun’s tube to 4500 or whatever is over the gun’s max pressure that is still in the big tank…

Now that you mention it, if he turns down the reg pressure to 1250 but the gun tube is still at more than that, the tube will have to be shot down to match the reg pressure or the velocity will be dropping down each shot until it levels out with the reg pressure… The tube will not let pressure back into to the reg and buddied bottle due to it having a check valve. So showing the reg pressure without showing the tube pressure doesn’t mean shit, we have to assume he shot down the tube pressure to match the reg pressure on the big bottle.

I just went and tested my 177 USFT at ten yards and shot a -0.1″ ctc group!!!! I must have the magic pellet for that rifle!!! 😆

Funny part is my USFT fills to 1600psi and is tuned to shoot JSB Exact Heavies at 880, I get about 100 shots with 25fps variation (unregulated) on about 200psi of air. Even a rifle that fills to 3000psi will shoot the same pellet at 880fps to get the best accuracy.

He shows the reg pressure at 1250 for one type pellet but never mentions the pellet velocity.

Pellet accuracy is ALL about the pellet speed for the given barrel.

The question I have is why did he not suggest installing a regulator in the rifle? I do not see many people walking around through the woods all day carrying that rig.
