Is there anyone in central Texas/Austin or willing to build and ship a custom metal box to me?
These are the specs to see if anyone is interested in build this for me.
ID W14″ H12″ D12″ with 1/8″ steel walls, front open, all joints welded.
Needs to be weather proof for year round service (finish?)
Will face direct sun for 10 hours a day during the hot Texas summer (finish?)
I will need a pair of 1/4 holes drilled for a mount (details pending)
Will need a top carry handle attached 2″ from back wall for balance.
I am willing to sand and repaint as required to protect the box.
Upon receipt I will add a steel target internally and some duct seal to quiet it down. I currently have a wooden version which works great but is starting to degrade after six months service.

Close but I’m not sure if my steel targets will hang in that space.
A few-fab box would be great but I’m sure someone here has the metalwork skills to build a custom box.
Maybe I need to check and see how far they are going in. I know mines is a tight fill and not loose.
Just went out and checked mine. Dug in about 6-8 inches and it is full of slugs. Mine is 18″ deep and I doubt that it’s even coming close to the back.
I’m off Tuesday and I will dump it out and separate the lead and see how much I have in it.
What is your box made out of? Shouldn’t really matter if they are only penetrating so far. Could you post a pic of it?
I have 3 bags in mine also. .308 260-290 fpe. .257 is 185-200 fpe.

Sorry but I wasn’t offering anything here, just sharing my trap to you guys.. Beside I’m at the other end of the world , can build for you but will cost an arms or legs for shipping… 😎
It is hard to beat the rubber mulch. I have fired a couple thousand .257 and .308 rounds into my box. It is 14″x14″x18″ and is more enough. It could be a lot smaller for pellets.
Mine has a slot in the front and I slide 3 layers of cardboard in the front. It holds the mulch in. After a while I have to tip it on it back and rotate the card board of flip one layer so the hole doesn’t line up. I shoot thru chrony so I tend to keep shooting the same spot. You could draw dots and there’s your target.

Built one myself, uses wooden plank in the front to hold target papers.
Now you have me thinking… The gotcha is my steel target (three sizes) is about 11″x11″. So I need a box that can survive Texas and fit that size.
I’ll keep an open mind since plastic is fairly cheap 🙂
I just built a silent pellet trap. I used rubber mulch made from shredded tires. I got the idea from Dyotat. Except I used a plastic 5 gallon bucket. It works great and cost next to nothing. I just put a bag of the mulch in (from Home Depot), and I put a piece of 2″ thick closed cell foam in the top to make a target base and to hold the mulch in. It lays on its side. The foam is the type like Pyramyd Air uses to pack pellets in for shipping. Dayotat used several layers of cardboard. The great thing about using the foam is it makes no noise when shot.

I am not sure why you want to hang a steel plate in front. It seems to me that would defeat the purpose of a trap. The pellets will be able to fly any where. If it is so you get the sound for hearing the hit from far back the steel trap by itself will do this. I have one of these and it makes a good ping! That is why I made the other trap.
