Valve stem
The valve stem snapped Friday, while trying some new pellets. Bummer!!! 👿
Called AF today, and got the parts ordered. They call the valve stem the valve pin. 😕 Never heard it called that before. Still, they have always given me very good customer service.
Some here have had problems with them, but I never have. YMMV!

know that they say the new stem is improved. But unless it is different than what they sent me 3 months ago, I can see no difference. 😕

Mine was approximately 7/64″ before I opened it up to 1/8″. Don’t know if that’s helpful, but just what I remember since I just modded the valve a couple of days ago.
Thanks Knifemaker, I appreciate it. As I strongly suspected, mine has been bored out considerably. Mine would probably do quite well at powering .22 or maybe even .25. I looked at it again last night an when put an o-ring behind the top hat in the hopes of slowing this thing down some.
As I stated mine has no tapering toward the valve end. Would a newer style valve stem still work properly in mine?
I am getting .178 from the one I am looking at here at my desk. But it is likely smaller. As this one shattered in the gun when shooting. It was old. Very old. Must have had this factory replacement for at least three months!
The original lasted for 7 years. Still waiting for the snail mail to deliver the replacement.

Also we have done a lot of R&D here that AF directly benefits from and they take freely.
While he my roll his eyes at the mention of this forum, we shout from the roof tops for years until they pay attention and take our ideas to improve their product.
BTW….AF often sends their customers here for answers when they call in.

The fact of the matter is the people on this forum are considered the experts on these guns….. Not the people at AF. We figure out the problems and solve them years before they even admit there is a problem.
The main problem with the present AF frames from what I can determin is they are not designed to achieve the power you guys are modifying them to produce. I suspect the new one will incorporate some of the “suggestions” some of you have so graciously forwarded to AF over the years. Hopefully we will not have to wait until the next SHOT Show to see it.
Now, as to the port diameter of my valve stem. What is the normal I.D. for a Talon SS valve stem? Also, will a newer valve stem work in my valve?

Macaslin rolls his eyes at us eh? He can pound sand. It wasn’t that long ago these condors couldn’t even open the valves as designed by him. He never even acknowledged that and instead had Tom Gaylord parroting a bunch of nonsense wrt wrong gauges or sum such.
Sorry they are your friends as they are likely nice folk. But your friends ought to be honest and we sure as heck never got that from them in the past.

Just search tom g. here. You will find plenty! Voltar said it best. Gaylord is the Al Gore of the air gun world. If he doesn’t know an answer, he just makes it up, and puts it out there as fact, and damns anyone who questions it, or tries to improve on a platform. (Un-less it is him fucking with it of course.)! And then lie like hell as what the results were.
McCaslin for some reason, continues to make flawed frames, while at the same time, putting down anyone who tries to point out the flaws. Things such as the frame being virtually cut in half in the breach area. Instead, we are all stupid for knowing what the problems are.

You would think they would appreciate the fact that they have customers with such a loyal following that they were willing to accept the shortcomings and work with them. But Hell no. Customer who really care about the platform are idiots. And they will tell you so in a heart beat! +2 for Gaylord.
I have read articles by Gaylord telling us that we don’t need a Chrono to tune a gun, as “HE” ca tell exactly how fast an air gun is shooting simply by the sound. Yeah, right Tom!
He wrote an article about scopes and what the coatings were for and how they worked. He got it completely Wrong. In fact, exactly the opposite of what they are for.
He wrote an article on how to sight in with a scope, and it was for a 5th grader. He totally missed the mark. And this clown is an expert.
Ever watch a Pyramid add on TV/ (He is with Pyramid now rather than AF.) They are written for Juveniles. They in no way appeal to the adult market what so ever. Childish as hell. Too the point it is embarrassing to try to explain to our powder burner shooting friends why we like the Air Guns. The ad’s picture us as a bunch of pimple faced geek idiots.

Speaking of valve stems, I finally got around to pulling my valve stem out and found mine to be different from the various photos I have seen here. Mine is a straight shaft with vertical slotting along the final 1/4″ or so below the inlet ports which are drilled straight through rather than angled.
Also, what should be the port diameter? Mine measures .2145″. I strongly suspect this one has been drilled out.
Very likely this is one of the original versions of the the Talon SS that I have. Mine does not have the bushing set screws on the side and my tank is dated ’99.
Oh, just for the record, I know Tom personally and consider him a friend. He does tend to be a stick in the mud when you try to discuss modifications to AF rifles, though. He lost it a couple of times when I tried to get information on some modifications I wanted to do to my Edge. I have also noticed Jim McCaslin roll his eyes at the mention of this forum, but it seems obvious to me that someone at AF is reading.
I know some of you are about to lose it and deliver a tirade, but would you please answer my questions first?
