Custom Barrels
Just wondering who and where folks are getting custom barrels for AF guns these days..
I’ve heard a few folks mention a name here and there but any and all sources would be helpful…
Anyone’s experiences in this area would be great to hear..as well as cost, etc..

Trondyne, TJ’s is different than Benchmark.
TJ’s number is 859-635-5560.
If you want to shoot cast bullets, you can order any caliber barrel that you want and then buy or cast bullets for it.
If you want to shoot 25 cal pellets, you would need a barrel for a 25 Auto (.251”) or a .243 barrel. A 25 cal (.257”) wouldn’t work for pellets as a pellet’s head size is .250-.251” and the head wouldn’t be centered in the bore of the barrel. TJ’s won’t crown or cut a lead in on their barrels. Hart will crown their barrels but, won’t cut a lead in.
A lead in is just a bevel cut into the muzzle end of the barrel that allows the pellet/bullet to be easily introduced into the bore and seated into the rifling. A 25 auto barrel wouldn’t need the larger angle lead in that a .243 barrel would need.
I wanted a barrel that would shoot anything accurately including 30gr Piledrivers. The guy made about 4 barrels before he was satisfied. Any caliber and any twist rate for a measly $166-drop in.

Is this TJ’s Gunworks and a Benchmark barrel? I thought he didn’t take checks…
I assume there is the additional setup costs Voltar_1 mentioned…
Isn’t that done for all AF compatible barrels? Not sure I follow this part..unless you mean in order to seat .25 cal pellets… Lots of .243 ammo out there its hard to decide which cal is better.. .223 – .243 – .250 – .257 — so many cals so little time…
I shoot a custom 24″ .22 Airvolution barrel, they are guaranteed to give sub MOA accuracy. Each barrel is tested before it is sent off. This weekend I hosted a long range comp for high power rifles and the guys were amazed to see me picking off 9mm empty cases at 110yrds.

Trondyne; if you want a 30” long .257” barrel, Hart will sell you one for around $350 or so. Hart doesn’t offer any barrels over 30” long. They will turn it down to .479” OD or higher. You tell them the OD that you want and they will turn it down to that size, without any extra charges. I have a couple Hart barrels. They do great work and their barrels are second to none accuracy wise.
If you don’t mind waiting, call Hart, tell them what you want and ask if they make a .250”-.251” barrel.
Hart has a current wait time of 12-14 weeks. Quality doesn’t come cheap and you might have to wait a while for it! Kind of like Edguns! Hey Wait: wrong section! 😆
If you want a 30” long barrel to shoot 25 cal pellets in, TJ’s sells a .251” barrel and they offer different twists in that caliber. TJ’s charges $4.25 per inch for a barrel at least that was their price a few months ago. Their hammer forge presses produce a 6’ long blank and they just cut a section out of that blank for your order. Mike, at TJ’s, told me that the first inch on each end of the 6’ blank had to be cut off so, you could order any barrel length from them up to 5’ 10”.
TJ’s offers different ODs and twists on each of their barrels, you will have to call them and ask what is available. They usually have everything in stock and if they don’t they will make one up for you. I ordered a couple of barrels from them and one of the barrels was out of stock. TJ’s won’t take any credit cards or Pay Pall; you have to send them a check.
I called Mike on a Monday, talked to him and I told him that I would send him a check that day. He said that he would have the out of stock barrel ready when my check came in. I got my barrels the following Monday! Great customer service!
I am currently trying to get my Boss/.257” setup going. I also just got a Matador 25 cal R3 standard in. I have found out that 25 cal BSA barrels are more accurate than the stock Matador’s LW barrel. The 25 cal BSA barrels are actually .243” and if I can’t find a good BSA 25 barrel, I will try a .243 Hart and TJ’s barrel on my new Matador.
If you end up with a .243” barrel, you will have to reshape the lead in so you can get the pellet easily seated.

I had been up way too long, had a few beers and I typed muzzle when I meant breech.
I got up this morning and I saw that you guys were having fun with my mistake!
I thought that I would correct my error and I looked at the 2 preceding posts that spelled breech as breach. I always thought that the closest end of the barrel was spelled breech BUT: I was kinda hung over, had just got up, wasn’t thinking correctly yet (if ever) and I thought WTF: is breech actually spelled breach and have I been fucking up all of these years spelling it breech?
I thought that you guys just picked on the new guys! 😆
