Sightmark IR illuminator?
I have been building myself a night vision setup similar to the Rolaids build, and I need an IR illuminator. I tried going the super cheap route using an Ultrafire IR flashlight, but it only lights up to about 10 yards out. So I am looking at the Sightmark illuminator. The price seems right, but if it is a piece of junk, I don’t want it. This is the one I am looking at:

Does anyone have any experience with these? I just need something that illuminates up to 50 yards or so. Will this do the job?

thats not that bad in price if you get one let me know how it works i went the cheap route also i have nv for my basement lol

Whoa!!!
What frequency do you need? There is a very common 850 nm, and a higher 940 nm frequency. They are NOT interchangable! The one you are looking at has a light frequency of 805 nm and is only 100 miliwatts in power. It may not be visible to your NV unit, or it may be so weak that it is not practical. Usually a “powerful” IR illuminator has at least 450 miliwatts in power.
You must obtain the correct nm frequency for your IR unit to “see” the light. There is a little play in frequency, but not a great deal. Next, power is power.
Read your owner’s manual and find exactly what “nm frequency” your NV scope uses.
If it uses 940 nm, I have one that’s 5 full watts, not milliwatts in power. And it is available.
