Q:

.25 Edgun R3 owners

I got my R3 .25 Long a couple of weeks ago and haven’t had much time to shoot it. It seems pretty loud to me. It’s not close to being backyard friendly. I am shooting it right out of the box with no adjustments. Will it get quieter as it breaks in? Is there anything I can do to make it quieter? I have less than 100 pellets thru it. Is your .25 loud?

It still passes right through when I shoot it at 890 fps. 😆

That’s good stuff.

You almost had me completely hypnotized with your sensible no nonsense approach.

The main reason I started tuning it was to quiet it down but I have no problem keeping it at full power to really lay the smack down when I so choose.

You should see the look on the squirrels face when the KING passes through him at 990 fps.

I now have the 25 standard and it is just a little louder.
than the 22 call but it shoots a lot harder and will put a hurting on
tree rats and the like.

Mine’s an early one, and it’s not loud at all. More mechanical noise because the spring is stronger, but very little air noise. But I do have it tuned down to “880 fps.

You kill me Hoot!
I did not thik my R3 was that loud?
I shoot in garage and thought it was pretty quiet.
That .25 predator pellet does make some noise though!
I almost took you up on the offer Hoot as I just got mine a couple weeks ago and have not had much time to shoot it.
Thankfully mine appears to be acceptable out of the box! lol

Dear JDR….

Your post tore at my heart! The frustration, the disappointment, the effort invested, only to find the instrument is too loud for your usage.

Because…and ONLY because a new pope is being elected, and in the sense of humble, Christian humility which possesses me….send me the .25 Matador, and I’ll see what I can do.

Mind you it make take awhile to remedy the situation, which requires extensive shooting, careful micro-adjustments, seasonal testing, dB ranges defined….but rest assured you will get it back eventually.

As I am now 70, I can’t work as fast as I used to. What used to take me months now takes a few years. However, in your case, I believe I can get this rascal fine tuned to dead quiet in two to three years.

PM me your address, and, believe it or not, there will be no charge.

No need for thanks!

That’s just the way I roll….

Mine is considerably louder than my .25 marauder which is shooting jsb 25.4 at 880 fsp. The R3. 25 was at 990 fps out of the box so I tuned it down to the low 900’ls and it’s still clearly louder than the Marauder.

I may just turn it back to the factory setting and reserve it for hammer time shots and shooting at my club range since it is far too loud.

Keep in mind I have a clague stripper on the marauder and can shoot all day in the yard no problem.

When I got my FX 400 Royale in .22 I was really surpriseed how loud it was as all the talk was that it was a quiet gun. At the time I had a Condor with a Air Hog shroud That was whisper quiet compared to the FX400.
Shooting over the chronograph the FX was pushing the 18.1 gr. JSB’s at 890 fps.
I backed the power down to 820 fps. and it quieted it greatly. Still not in the same league the Condor with Air Hog shroud but the shroud is a third the size.

Heard once you turn it down to 900fps, should be a little more quiter.

Everything else about my .25 R3 Long is great but mine is also loud and not as backyard friendly as I’d like. It is much louder than the .22 Edgun I used to have but I also had the factory add on LCD with my .22 Edgun. I have been thinking of adding some sort of adaptor to my .25 so I can use an LCD for backyard shooting.
