Q:

Broke the stock, Put a sling on it!

Decided to put a sling on my Cricket, to not only help carry it but for standing shots. Was gonna put the studs on the left side because I felt like it would carry well like that. But, I was talked out of that by my buddy, hes a gunsmith, so he put the rear in the normal locale and the front on the part of the stock that your hand isn’t completely covering. The front drilled and installed nicely but he splintered the stock in the rear. So he threw it on the belt sander and re-stained it and it actually turned out quite nice.

Sling seems to work best with it upside down.

The shadow makes it look odd but the stain was a perfect match.

This is the stain that matched it perfect

quote REARSPROCKET:

Looks great and nice repair. They make a special sling swivel installation drill bit that helps avoid splintering.

That’s the exact one he used along with a big brass and steel device to center the bit for his drill press. It didn’t happen when he drilled it but when he screwed in the stud.

Actually it was a new bit I saw him unwrap it, he threaded the hole. The problem was when he tightened the stud in the wood just splintered and twisted off with very minimal torque. The wood before sanding it is only .25in wide it was way to easy.

Looks good!

Dull bit, and low rpm. Bet ya money. The old timers are scared shitless of high rpm. Nine times out of ten, they have no idea there are times you need to use it! (Have too, Better do it!)

Learned this years ago, working VERY expensive handle materials. On knives costing a “LOT more than a Cricket AirGun. 😉

Apart from the fact he fucked it up at first… 😮

😆

Good call on the front stud placement. 😉

He did a good job on it.
