I changed out the valve from the co2 adapter and put it on my standard ss tank. now when I go to fill my tank all the air releases out the top hat. I messed with the brass insert thinking that the spring was too tight to lower the th depth and no joy. ok what did I mess up?

At what point does the air start to escape from the valve?
Are there any visible signs of defect on the delrin valve tip or the seat?
Why are you trying to use the CO2 valve on a HPA tank?
The valve spring on the CO2 valve is only about half as strong as the HPA valve. If you try to pressurize the tank much above 850 psi the valve will leak or the burst disk will blow since they are 1.8k or less instead of the 3k or 5k on an HPA tank.
Anyways the valve seat was damaged(me thinks it was training day at Airforce because the seat looked like the valve return spring was installed against the seat). When this was explained to the nice lady at Airforce it was like tough Poo-Poo. Who am I to argue. Maybe I should have bought a Steyr? Still love my Talon though.
CO2 adaptor has a 1 year warranty 😡 . I did not even use the thing for a year after I got it, Then when I got serious it was out of warranty.
Comet, I don’t understand why you paid 20 bucks for replacement. It is under lifetime warranty. Why pay for a replacement when Airforce will send you a replacement at no cost? 😕
Now about the valve. Have a hand drill or drill press? Simply put the valve seal on the end of the stem, lightly chuck it up, and while spinning it, lightly touch up the mating surface with 400 grit or finer paper. It will cure any tiny imperfections, giving a good seal. (Rather than using the valve stem and possibly denting it, Use a piece of 3/23″ brasing rod.)
I have done this several times with seals with thousands of rounds fired with them. Just takes a few minutes. 😉

The adapter came free with my gun. So its really no big loss. But there was a couple of light groves along the edge where it would seat.
My CO2 adaptor had a bad seat also, from the factory. Had to purchase a new seat and valve. $20.00 bucks or so.
I think that the part that seats is bad. I tried to loosen and tighten the brass. I even disassembled the talon ss standard valve and put it back together. So I put the standard valve back in and that tank is working great. I think that it is a bad valve from the factory. I had one co2 fill on the bottle and i couldn’t take the adapter off or it would leak all the co2 out. then the last time i messed with it it leaked all the co2 out via a slow leak.
now to my next question. does anyone make a valve like the direct flow valve like the one that comes on the talonp? I really like that valve but not happy with the shot count. would like to have a little larger tank behind the valve. On the talonss I have a condor spin loc with tonys quick change tophat with an 18″ barrel. But it seams as if the talonp with a 12″ with the direct flow is moving faster with the same pellets. The benjamins 28gr are hitting supper hard and accurate. maybe its just me!
Well, It may be too loose, but probably not. Since it is the first fill, release the air quickly. This may help the valve seat. If not, you are going to have to go in and tighten it again. That and make sure the delrin valve seat is well seated to the top hat tube before re-installing it. It may have become dislodged before getting a chance to seat properly.

Are there any visible signs of defect on the delrin valve tip or the seat? Oh yeah, valve seat is scarred real bad.
Why are you trying to use the CO2 valve on a HPA tank? I am not using a CO2 valve, I am using CO2 adaptor.
