Q:

POI down right 2" if breech slide from left to right

I was shooting my talon ss today. I don’t know why the poi went down right about 2″ when I put the breech slide to right side? but it groups well. When I put breech back on left side, it shot right on crosshair.

anyone knows why?

I’ve checked tophat and replaced two o-rings, but problem was still there. I switched to use another co2 adapter, and the problem is gone. Then I found the two co2 adapters are different thread length, one is shorter which has problem. When I screwed it on, the tophat is not right aligned with barrel. I twist the tophat to make it right toward the barrel. Then it shoots much better no matter which side I use.

I use a quarter-inch diameter wooden dowel to check this. Find a dowel or cleaning rod that is very close to the bore diameter, but make sure its something that will not scratch the barrel.

It only takes a few seconds to do this.

One tip, insert the dowel with the bolt closed, then once you open the bolt hold it open with your thumb. You don’t want a discharge happening while you are looking at the alignment.

Incidentally, this is also why I stopped looking down the barrel to check alignment.
Realizing you are peering down the barrel of a cocked 3000psi air rifle, kinda makes you feel queasy and stupid.

With the tank installed look down the barrel with the bolt open and see if the top hat is not off center and is in line with the barrel.

Also measure the top hat in relation to the barrel an make sure it is dead center with the barrel.

If it is not loosen the collar in the frame holding the tank and adjust until the top hat is dead center to the barrel.

Simple fix; only rotate breach slide to the left.

But seriously, it may be that the breach slide is ever so slightly eccentric at the barrel end and rotating to the right puts some preload on the barrel. The barrel bushings are not designed to prevent such torquing of the barrel.

Or the o-rings are worn or something.

It really shouldn’t matter where that knob is set right to left…. 😀

Your tophat is probably loose and rotated when you shifted the breach to the side.
