Q:

Bent Valve stem

Hi guys,

I (slightly)bent the valve stem on my Talon SS when removing it. How do I straighten it without causing anymore damage? I’ve noticed an increase in air usage probably due to the stem rubbing against the valve wall.

Thanx in advance,

Nick

Thanx for the info LURKER, I have 2 valves with smaller ports that I use with my 12″ .177 barrel and a valve with slightly larger ports that I use with my .20 18″ barrel. Its set to push 13,7gr Jsbs at 920fps-it never took much of a hammering so I can’t understand why it broke. If all goes well, I’ll have 2 new valves this week-i’ll look at the TT valve when my finances are in a better state.

My DIY PORTED VALVE Stem gave out today after hammering it a bit with heavy hammer spring.

I had just re worked PSI, PW and FPS settiings for two different pellets and decided to see if my 12″ .177 could break MACH I. Had 7.9 gr CPHPs doing 1060 FPS at best so went on to set up some 7.4 gr CP Destroyer XPs and couldn’t get them going as fast as the 7.9s at the same setting. Back to 7.9s and descovered they had lost over 300 FPS, but were now consistant around 600 FPS ❓ ❓ ❓

Decided to pull the valve stem and had to muscle it out ❓

It had served me well for some time but pounding it at full power did it in ❗
It had a pretty smooth finish before this happened:

.

I had a couple in my spare parts so I’m back up and adjusting all over again.

If you need more power and more shots per fill, I strongly suggest you buy TalonTunes new One Piece Quick Change Valve Stem. It is beefed up to take more punishment and is very versatile. I have one on my TT AAA .25 Condor.

Thanx guys, I pulled the valve/stem last night and found that the stem had broken on the threaded section under the tophat. So I’ll have a new one turned and that’ll sort out the bend stem aswell.

Much appreciated
Nick

I’d save the top hat and grub screws but the AF stem probably will cause more trouble. It wasn’t made to be bent and straightened.

You wouldn’t regret it if you order Tony’s New Single Piece Adjustable Valve stem. It is a lot sturdier.

You could try putting a drill bit down the shaft, or buy a new one.
