Q:

Trijicon ACOG

Well, I got the Edgun .25 and it’s a great piece of kit. I also got a Leupold 6.5-20×42 EFR and finally got it to sight in with a set of Burris Signature rings…Ed’s sloped the rail down a lot on the new guns and it’s making sighting in difficult for some of us.

Problem is, I’ve found I really do not like the scope…the optics are great, but the zoom and focus (parallax adjustment, whatever) really detract from the fun of shooting. At a fixed distance a scope is fine, but I want to use this for hunting and plinking where I’m on the move and shooting at targets which are at varying distances. To be fair, I’m a retired Marine and spent years shooting iron sights, so the whole scope thing is new to me.

This got me thinking about a fixed focus scope or perhaps even a red dot or holo sight (although I’ve had an Eotech and was not really all that impressed). I came across a Trijicon ACOG, and the 4×32 looked like it might be a good option for hunting and general shooting not only close in but out to 150-200 yards, although at the greater distances 4x is admittedly not a lot of magnification.

What I’m looking for is simplicity, reliability, and no focusing/changing settings, etc. I just want to aim, shoot, and hit the target, whether it’s 10 yards away or 200.

Any suggestions or experiences with the ACOG on an air rifle appreciated.

Wow, that is a long time. Thank you for your service! My neighbor is a retired Sgt. Major. He put in 32 years. He had my 8 year old son in his driveway/garage for a two week boot camp!

Good luck on your scope choice!

Ah… The higher the power the higher the sensitivity to AO adjustment.

You really need two guns. One for plinking at low pressure with cheap pellets and one for long range hunting.

Tell your better half this is solid advice offered by an online friend. The purchase will be a slam dunk.

Thanks for the replies, looks lie I’m stuck with a scope although the Leupold, despite the glowing reviews, is a bit of a chore to focus.

What’s the easiest variable scope to use that will get me maybe 15-20 power? Price not too important.

I was in from 79-2008

red dot with magnifier or a 4x acog at 150 to 200 yards…No! Especially if you are hunting little critters. You will hardly see them at that distance with 4 x. Get you a 10x fixed SWFA SS or something under 19 ounces along those lines. When where you in the Marines?

I Like my ACOG on my M4, I had it on my condor just for fun and it didn’t like it. 4x was not enough magnification for me on an air rifle.

Parallax is a fact of life in optics. Red dot has a form of parallax but nothing to be concerned about. For 10ft to 30ft a high quality 1MOA red dot should do it. For longer distances you can put a magnifier optics for your red dot and see further accurately.

For close range consider a laser mounted close to the barrel on the lower rail.
