Pillar bedding Matador
Anyone ever done so?
Or epoxy bed for that matter.
If you are the type that takes his out of the stock on occasion the contact point tends to compress in the wood.
I’ve seen mention of the barrel closing towards the air tube when tightening.
I don’t know how this affects accuracy but it can’t be good.
Upon examination it is easy to see why this happens.
The air tube sits on a contact point in the stock.
When you tighten the action and it starts to compress in the wood the air tube cannot follow as it is on this contact point but the rest of the gun does.
I was thinking of glass bedding but the contact area of the trigger block to stock is pretty narrow there and I think a pillar would be better.

I’m thinking not quite so elaborate. Putting a pillar between the trigger guard and trigger housing using the contact area of the air tube to set height.
You took it a step further, in the right direction. Very nice.
I pillar mounted my R2.5 25 long. The air tube touched the stock and, I was wondering if the air tube’s varying pressure, and slight size difference, could cause a POI shift. I wanted to come up with a solid gun action mount that “floated” the air tube. I ended up with an air tube gap that I could slide 3 sheets of paper, between the stock and air tube, all of the way back until they hit the trigger mount.
I made a pillar mount set up for the trigger and I made a block that I attached to the hammer housing. I had a screw that went thru the butt stock and into the mount. I epoxied a brass sleeve into the stock for trigger guard screw’s mounting hole and I epoxied a counter sunk brass sleeve into the butt stock for the hammer housing mount. I had a BSA barrel on the gun and it would easily hit a dove’s head or a ground squirrel’s head at 125 yards. I like head shots!
Funny thing about that gun was: I could only average around 1.25” 100 yard groups but; if I had an accurate yardage, from my rangefinder, it was no problem hitting head shots out to 125 yards. I also posted a video of it shooting 9, 45 cal Long Colt casings at 100 yards. It was kind of breezy that day and it took 13 shots to hit the 9, .478” wide casings. I only found one of the 9 casings and I still carry it in my pocket. Dead center shot.
That gun ended up shooting better than I could shoot it and I really think that I just didn’t concentrate when I was trying to shoot 100 yard groups.
I have the same setup made for my R3 25 long, I just haven’t drilled the rear of the stock and added it; yet!
I thought that I had a bunch of pics of my R2.5 25 long setup, I couldn’t find any. This pic is what I have for my R3 25 long.
I just added it to my Photo bucket site and I couldn’t figure out how to resize it. I REALLY HATE the new and improved Photo bucket site!
The only pic that I have shows the hammer housing mount, the screw and the little alum plate below the HST adjusting screw lock screw is the spacer for the trigger screw pillar mount.
looking forward to answers from the experts on this. never really liked glass bedding due to mess and accidentally getting actions or other parts stuck(dont ask me how i know…the release agent didnt do its job, i swear!).
pillar bedding should cure a known minor ailment of this neat little rifle if done correctly.
