Question 12" .177 Barrel for Stubby Hi-Flo (Talon) Valv
I want to put a .177 barrel on my Stubby Hi-Flo (right now he has a .25) for sparrow Olympics (don’t ask). WIth JSB 10.34s can I turn it down enough to handle these pellets or do I need a different valve? I am looking for sparrow hunting accuracy not FT. Thanks.
I read an old post from Synopsis that said for FT you need an 18 or 24 and a reg to get the consistency. Also the high-flo is too much power and reducing it will hurt consistency. Can I still get maybe an inch groups at 50 yards?

Thanks! I put the order in at R&L for the barrel and he threw in a spring for free and said the same thing.
You’ll need a stronger return spring in the valve to stop tank dumps. Put an oring behind the tophat to reduce power.

Ok – here is what I did and the results so far. R&L sent me the barrel, .177 spring, and a tin of Benjamin 10.5 gr pellets because he is out of the JSB 10.34s. I have them on backorder.
I switched out the barrel, cranked the hammer spring adjustment down to a 2 and shot about 50 shots w/o changing the valve spring (Randy said to try it w/o changing it in case it had a strong enough spring but to be prepared for the dump). No dump so far.
The HP Benjys are shooting about a 3/4″ group at 40 yards which is better than I expected. This is with a 12″ barrel and Benjy pellets. What velocity is best for the JSB 10.34s? I didn’t get to chrony it yet but would guess it is in the 850-950 fps right now. Extremely quiet with the R&L shroud but they are flying out there.
It drew first blood already. 🙂
