Q:

Which speed (FPS/MPS) gives the best accuracy ?

I have one more dumb question : Which pellet speed seems to be the best for accuracy for .22 cal. 18gr. JSB Heavies on your STD length EdGun ?
I know the 885-890 is the Holy Grail for most consistent shots/best shot count/amount of reg. shots but is it THE best speed for accuracy as well ???

I will vote for 880FPS because I did a study with mine gun(only my gun). It delivers between 876~882fps.

Here is a unpublished early compile, pay attention to only to the trojectory and Grade, ignore POI. G5 is best. You will see spirals with 883+ shots.

Thanks for posting that.
I have been seeing some pretty wicked spiraling with my standard .22 Matador and it is shooting 890ish.
Did you only use the hammer spring to adjust velocity?

Did you have that bad a spiraling problem with 18gr. @ 890 fps or are you using some other, lighter pellets ??

I may try to tune the speed down by 10 fps to around 880 fps and see if there´s any noticeable change in anything. My gun shoots well ( i don´t have a camera to detect any spiraling though) at the current speed (892 +- 5) and it stays there untill 60 shots – then drops down to 876 +- 2) for the following ten shots. Haven´t shot it over 70 shots per fill and those 70 shots take 95 bars (200 bar down to 105 bar) so i´m quite happy with it now. I cleaned the barrel today and screwed the HST up half a turn and the speed increased to 928 fps and went down to 890+ after just 45-50 shots so i set the HST back to my starting point at 892.
It seems to work fine at that setting but i´ll try and back it off half a turn still to see what happens.

That serial of shots is around the tail ramp, I did not touch HST during the shooting. Pretty windy that day.

My CF tank is running low too.

Thanks again! Will do.

Put out a piece of paper at 100yds and examine holes and groups. . If you see side tears or really odd shaped holes pellet is wobbling. Back it down a bit until it has clean consistent holes for majority of shots. Shoot at least a dozen shots per group( I prefer 20)if a couple are a bit odd I personally wouldn’t worry as you’re bound to have slight defects in some pellets affecting flight somewhat. Hi speed camera is easier to do this with but paper is cheaper and just as telling.

Thanks! Mine is doing 272 mps (892 fps) with very little deviation and it´s really accurate but i was wondering whether it could be even more accurate with some more/less speed. I quess i need to try different speeds from 880 to 920 then.

Concensus is that is appx max speed 22 Diablo pellet will stay stable in long range windy conditions. Others have pushed up to 920 in near windless conditions.
You could also go slower but 880ish seems to be best overall for max FPE with excellent accuracy in normal outside conditions.
