poor man’s regulator help
So, I’m trying to figure out after I put the top hat back in with the o ring do I push it all together or do I need a gap/space between thetop hat and the o ring? Also if I need a gap how much of a gap/space?

LOL no worries, I’m playing around with it right now I know I’ve got to get a chronograph and double check everything.

It may not be a regulator, but it keeps mine a little more Regular. 😆 😉
Yes, it does do some good. And will give better shot count and many times consistency. So we do call it a poor mans reg. Most of us anyway. 😆

Yep the Poor Man’s Regulator is not a regulator.
But for little expense and experimenting it can:
1) help conserve air,
2) help flatten the FPS power curve,
3) Improve Standard Deviation,
4) help quiet tank ping, and
5) help you exceed 466 FPS 😯

The most likely explanation of the Poor Man’s Regulator is that it may not be as good or as expensive as other mods or an expensive regulator but with a little adjustment it does make things a little better. IMO it lessens hammer ba-ba-bounce allowing the valve to close quicker preventing loss of excess air. Read the numerous postings by powderburner and see the data.
Once you add the o-ring behind the top hat I would say you do loose a little on FPS. That can also be an improvement if you use to much PSI and hi Power Wheel setting. If you need to regain the little FPS that may be lost, you can usually gain it back by adjusting the Top Hat gap out usually by no more than 1/2 a turn.

Forget an oring if you are set on trying it find some rubber gasket material.
Yes you need a gap or yourvalve don’t open.
You need to try stuff and learn from doing.

I did this with some rubber pipe I cut up and man it is so good, I was Shooting from 230 bar down to 160bar then my poi would go all over then I did a soft rubber behind the top hat, now it runs from 220 bar down to 50 bar and they are so bang on, I was going to buy a reg not now 🙂
