Q:

Back in Black

Ebonized the Edgun stock with ebony aniline dye finished off with 3 coats of Deks Ojl 1 (basically thinned linseed oil) and 5 coats of Tru Oil, then lightly rubbed out.

The grain is not covered at all as it would be with paint or stain, color is more of a really dark black-ish brown than black, but it looks great in person, kinda hard to see the grain in the photos.

Gloss isn’t for everyone I know, but once I started rubbing it out I couldn’t stop. Er…the stock I mean.

Thanks…agree that it’s difficult to pick up the crosshairs with the scope that low, I switched to higher Burris Signature Zee mounts and it’s loads easier. I happened to have those Leupy mounts and they’re a lot cleaner and seem more secure than the Burris so I tried them out, but with a higher mount and the big bright picture that scope gives, the sight picture and crosshairs instantly snap into view with a higher mount so the Leupy mounts are back in the drawer.

The 8×56 is a great choice for me…I get bogged down determining what magnification to use and it detracts from the fun of shooting…a simple fixed power, esp with the quality of the SB scope, is too fun…just point and shoot! Plus it’s illuminated and the scope is bright at lower light levels, so very nice shooting at dusk.

What prep work did you do to the stock?
Dang, that eye piece is crowding that rail.

Just stripped it, shaped it, and sanded it.

Eyepiece isn’t crowding the rail, it fits perfectly!

Well, I didn’t mean touching. LOL.
The rings I had on hand had my scope like that too.
Found it uncomfortable acquiring cross hairs but that is a subjective thing.
As is the look of your stock.
And it is beautiful.
Splendid work.
Thanks for showing a way to get black without paint.
If I get ambitious I may do the same to mine.

😯 Is it comfortable have mounts so low ? It looks pretty low…

Those are the lowest mounts I’ve ever seen!!!

Holi Crapoli Batman! That thing looks mission critical.

That is freaking beautiful! Nice job! What did you use to strip it?
