spent some chrony…..257 MORE TESTING
…yeah, I know, not nearly as exciting as Cedric, Doug, RC, and any other limp dicks shooting nearly 1/3 miles with their 1/4 bore air rifles but it is what it is and having six kids and three jobs I’ll take what I can get. Besides, I think this is important/quality time spent prior to accuracy (especially long range shooting). I was able to figure out a base starting position for my first “range sessions”.
I first started out with around a 2 preload (power wheel), but keep in mind this PW preload is nothing like the stock spring AF preload. My SP was 3100 as this is what was left in the guppy tank. First shot was 1060 with the 74 grain lymans (the only bullet I used for testing today) and by shot four I dropped into the 1005 fps range so this seemed to be pretty hot so I think I will explore this setting when I have 3200 psi in my guppy tank tethered. If not tethered it will be too much power for the small af tank for any number of shots…but nice to know it can hit 187 fpe for a few high power shots!
I added three more rotations of preload and this proved to be way to much. It made the cocking more difficult and I did not want to stress the breech handle as I have been known to “mongo” a few bolts in half back in the day when I was on the quest for 22xx power. Besides, there was no benefit to the higher preload as my first three shots where 1039, 1037, and 1021 fps (under powered from the lower preload).
Next I turned it down one rotation and it gave me a 1044, 1035, 1032, 1028 fps on a 3050 sp. This is where I think it was best.
I retrieved my big tank which had 3200 left in it so from here on I started with 3200 psi.
I tested this by turning it down another rotation and as expected on a 3200 SP (the ideal SP as recommended by Doug 3200/3300) I had some “valve lock” with 1002, 1005, 1006, 1026.
Back up one full turn and on a 3200 psi SP I had four nice shots of 1047, 1044, 1036, 1037. I will shoot at this setting while tethered to my guppy tank with 3200 psi in it and I will see how many shots I can get before my tank pressure stops to drop and my SD is compromised. I have to say, I never shot any string with a stock condor that produced an SD of 10 fps or less so Kudos to Doug for “blue printing” a fine rifle! 😎 On average it consumed 75 psi per shot.
Next chance I get I will polish the barrel, then set out for some accuracy testing (time permitting). It was nice to put in some trigger time today (finally). Looking forward to the future and joining the “pepsi challenge” with the rest of you lunatics!

That’s seriously AWWWWWESOME SIR! ABOUT TIME YOU SHOT THAT DAMNED GUN……lol! Just joking, trust me, I have only one kid but I can relate to how you have NO TIME anymore. ME EITHER!
But as far as Limp Dicks go, out of the group of us shooting long range, i’m afraid that that title goes to RC. Him shooting to 608 yards makes up for what he lacks elsewhere in distance (length)…………lol!
Hell, as much as he shoots how can he have time to get it up, little or not 😀
Yes, it certainly was fun. I figure I have around 70 shots through the barrel now. Not sure how many Doug ran through, and or you, but I am going to look at the bore next week and I will most likely polish it up. I am just about down to 3200 in my big CF tank so once there I am going to head to the range so I can tether it to the rifle and shoot for accuracy at the same pressure (the poor mans regulator, lol).
