Cricket Accuracy – Need Advice
I have a cricket .25 bulldog stock, I have tried several different pellets and a lot of them seem to hit the target side ways make a keyhole apperance, this of cource throws off the accuracy. when I got it the cricket was shooting at 990 fps, I have turned it down with the screw in the back to 920 fps up to 950 fps, doesn’t seem to matter the speed the pellets still hit side ways. I have cleaned the barrel, made sure the shroud is tight. not sure what I should try next. I’m not mechanically inclined or have any desire to try taking it apart and further than I have. I would rather pay someone who knows what they are doing to look at it for me, if that’s what it takes.

It seems most say it should be turned down to 875 to 900, that’s a shame in a way, good in others. I looked for clipping, didn’t see anything. I would think if it was clipping then all the pellets would clip, which is not the case. Most of the pellets I was shooting was JSB Exact King, but not all. I tried at least 4 different kinds, crow magnums, H & N, Barracudas and one other I forget the name.
Does anyone know of someone who works on Crickets, in case I need to get something done to fix the problem?

I had and have airguns that are very accurate shooting regular Diabolo pellets in the upper 900s fps and lower 1000s fps, so if you gun is keyholeing at 920-950 fps there’s something wrong with that gun

😆 That’s what I get for not shooting at targets with a velocity over 900fps I guess! 😆

Best illustration I can think of is offered by my Daystate AirRanger 80 (cal.25)…….
It is capable of shooting Kings at 1040 fps but spreads like a shotgun at that velocity. If you’re lucky enough to hit your target, you’ll see nothing but keyholes….
As velocity drops (and it does quickly in that gun) you will see how groups come together and keyholes disappearing as speed comes down. Max accuracy and optimum speed in that particular gun would be around 850 fps for the JSB Kings…….
Barracudas show the same behavior as do the Eu Jins, Both at different velocities though………
Gamo’s ultra light “Raptor” golden pellets (cal.177) also deliver close to perfect keyholes at the speeds Gamo themselves recommend…. 🙄
Quite a number of “powerjunkies” I know has had the same experience, – and is isn’t until they realize it is more fun to hit the target than just aiming at it they begin to realize………. 😉
Check for clipping too.
I’ve shot a bunch of different pellets in different airgun and have never seen one keyhole… 😯
I´m quite certain you shouldn´t be above 900. The sweet spot seems to be around 880-890 with 25+ gr JSB Kings. I may have got it all wrong though so someone with first handle knowledge is soon going to chime in.
What sort of pellets ???
This is a normal problem when you approach speeds too high for any given pellet, – regardless of caliber………. 😉

Hello, I had a Cricket .25 with some accuracy issues. After shooting several different pellets, cleaning the barrel, shooting without shroud, I sent it back to TAG. They found it to have a bad barrel. Replaced the barrel. I then adjusted the reg to 890fps and it shoots great. Tag advised to shoot lubed pellets. I can adjust your reg if needed.
