In-tank regulator project discussion

Hi guys, I am planning on taking up my in-tank regulator project that I started last year and would like to ask a few question about my proposed system that is similar to what mcmike did many years ago

Last year I build a working regulator that was small enough to fit through the neck of the bottle. A year of university got in the way and now I am back at it. Now I am onto the valve, pretty simple and I have hone loads however this valve has to be able to fill into the tank directly and not through the valve/regulator. Trying to fit all this stuff in there is pretty difficult so the valve has to have a valve stem the full length of the valve body (No big deal, just like the blodnob valves) but it has to be around 6mm OD or 0.236″ and have a centre hole of 5mm or 0.196″ this I think won’t be a super high power valve, but I am just wondering that what you want with a regulated gun is lower power say 20-30 fpe but consistency and shot count by having a regulator.

I haven’t used the forum in over a year so I have no idea of there the norm of shot count and power etc. is but what I am asking is, would you guys be interested in a regulated AF gun, with no additional overall length that will do a large amount of consistent shots at 20-30 fpe in .22? Tank is filled directly so no need to dry fire before shooting like you would if the tank was filled through the reg.

Forgot to add, caliber in .25 reg pressure was about 150bars fill plessure 240(warm).

Here’s a shotstring with the new reg. Also a picture of the valvebody in the bottle with the filling adapter.
Still a bit more work to be done but I’m headed in the right direction. Internal volume is about 17cc. So should be enough to get upto 60ft.lbs

I’ve asked Ewoodie to shoot a string. He has the first one I’ve made in his .22 since May. I’m building number 2 at the moment to fit to my .25. Ewoodie has gotten 60 shots at 30ft.lbs. In the brief time number one was tested on my gun i got 40 shots at 45 ft.lbs. Will try and upload some more info when I’m back home next week.

Here’s a vid of a test of a vented in bottle regulator that does lengthen your rifle and does not require filling through the firing valve.

I have asked if there would be interest but no one replied. Otherwise I would consider making a batch.

Yeah, I’m pretty much going to run with a non vented spring stack and see how it goes, might see if I can reduce the travel of the regulator piston as much as possible by setting the spring stack stiffer than I normally would which should hopefully reduce the o-ring leaking. If it lasts months rather than weeks I guess it’s okay.

For decent power you need at least 15cc in your secondary chamber. So it needs to be at the bottom. No venting might work for awhile but orings will leak in the long run. The spring stack has to be at atmospheric pressure for a consistent regulation.

How to vent the regulator when it’s down at the bottom of the tank? It’s unless I have the regulator inside the M18x1.5 threads and bore out a large chamber in the valve body, probably would have to make the valve body about an inch longer which isn’t too bad. Still got to figure out how to get a path to fill the bottle not through the valve. If I can figure out a way to get the regulator piston to work as a check valve in some way, I could fill through the spring stack vent.

Is a vented spring stack absolutely necessary? People were installing regs into their AA S410 and not drilling a vent hole in their tube.

Hi, vent the regulator and make an intake in the collar. And fill using a banjo on the collar.
