Little help adjusting my cricket

I adjusted the regulator in my cricket using Ernest Rowe’s method, and had my .22 cricket shooting jsb 18’s around 880-888….. with a 150 bar fill… due to my tank being low. Then I got my tank filled today and gassed the gun up to 220 bar, but when I shot it over the crony the pellets were only going at 650 fps? Seem to have some sort of vapor lock. The hammer tension adjuster on the back of the breach is all the way in by the way. It wasn’t when the gun was shooting in the 880’s this morning. I’m assuming my issue is with the Valve spring tension, needing more or less tension….. any thoughts? When I de-gas the gun back to 160 bar or so (I have the old gage, so I’m talking about the very bottom of the green) the gun started to shoot around 850 fps…. not the 880’s I had in the AM. I’m confused…

One other thing is I tried to install the new aluminum valve stem as some of you have done, but the gun wouldn’t fire at all after, so I put the original plastic one back in and all was well. Not sure what was going on there. The two look almost identical, and the stem is the same length, so it is a bit perplexing.

Last – I just put a 15″ Neil Clague air stripper on the cricket and love it! Much less snappy.

Is the new part the same size? It could easily be its just in the wrong place (not deep enough) and the pistons top edge is not meeting the seal.

Warbroom – I’ll try your method. I measured the adjustment plate depth before I removed the original valve stem, replaced the old stem with the new, then put the plate back to the same depth… didn’t work. I’ll try your method next.

SteHughes90 – I hope you are wrong… but I think not. I’ll play around with the Reg more but be prepared to replace it…. that would be a bummer! I’ll shoot that string first, but I already know the speed increases as I “shoot” the pressure down.

A little frustrating to say the least, but I’m learning a ton.

It sounds like your regulator is dead!

Regulators are set anywhere between 90 and 130 bar. This low pressure side is where the firing valve takes the air to fire your gun.

To me it sounds like this low pressure area isn’t low pressure and the regulator just isn’t regulating… The low pressure side is the same pressure as your air cyclinder so when you fill upto 200 bar the firing valve is much harder to open and you are getting less air released…

As the pressure falls from 200bar to 150bar your firing valve is much easier to open and you get more air released….

Fire a full charge from 200 bar to empty and graph them, this will confirm this and you will see a really big power curve.

The regulator will be broken by one of the two possibilities

1. damage to the piston or piston seal, can’t really repair this just get new parts.
2. your piston is not moving as the o-rings around the regulators main body are broken and instead of having atmospheric pressure you have 200 bar..

I ran into the same problem when I replaced the valve plunger
I screwed it in until it touched the plunger then gave it 1 full turn
