45 degree open sight Update

Anyone tried to mount 45 degree open sight on their Airforce condor or talon for close range transition ? If so what mounts and sight did you use ?

I mounted the sight on the top rail, it’s not a perfect setup which I suspected would happen. The sight are about a quarter of an inch off parallel to the right of the barrel. It’s not to bad since shots will be under 30 feet. I need to place my cheek on the bottle end edge in order to sight in. I’ve notice if I mount the sights on the scope rail my nose come close to the rear objective and smog it up. Other than that I like it so far and I’ll be spending more time on it this weekend.

Sight info: Front sight adjustable elevation, back sight adjustable windage. The back sight has two different sizes peep hole changeable with a flip.

I already have this from mounting the bi-pod if it works I’ll buy another set, and mounting on the scope rail maybe also true. I’m also concern about what John said in the above is also true and I may need to modify one of the sight to make it work. But if I’m using the setup only with in 10 yards to almost point black range. Any adjustment(s) I have to make hopefully will be a minimum.

Update I found and ordered this, I like it can be folded down when the gun is in it’s case and or not in use.Thinking of mounting the front and back sight on the barrel rail only. The rear peep sight might be a little far but the peep hole seems large enough. The height is made for an AR-15 and from picture seems about the height of the cheek resting back bottle height on the Talon. Cost $28.95 + $4.99 shipping.

I’ll let everyone know when I get it on the gun and how it works. I like the idea that I can use it for that close and fast follow up shots under 10 yards, and use the scope to handle 10 yards and beyond.

There are several different brands of angle mounts like this around that should work nicely. It allows you mount pretty much anything off to the side.

Any dot sight will do although you will likely want something as small and as light as possible. You can also get mounts that will allow you to mount the dot sight on top of your scope if you do not mind the height.

The AirForce fiber-optic sights are setup to work with the stock Condor rails. As long as you use the same adaptor front and rear, the mounting surfaces will have the same relationship to the bore as the original rails. The AirForce specific sights will work fine.

I’d suggest twin rail adapters, since tri-rails will give you a different parallax compensation between the scope and open sights. On tri-rails, the scope will mount perpendicular to a line through the bore. A line perpendicular to the open sight will miss the bore. A twin-rail mounts both so that a perpendicular line from either misses the bore by the same amount, only to opposite sides of the bore. It’s along that perpendicular line that parallax is measured. The wider the adapter the less the parallax offset you’ll have to correct for in either case.

Hay, ON_THE_EDGE how things going ? Ya, it seems harder to get the two inline (parallel) with the barrel then the height of each sight. Maybe not a good project to undertake.

You will either have to mount both sights on the top rail (which will give you a short sight radius), make or purchase a riser block that will bring the front sight up to the same height as the rear sight, mount a red dot or similar instead, or do a serious mod to your frame.

I would think the rear mount would have to be longer in length to the right, the height would be okay if Air Force open sight is used it already comp for front and back height difference.

On the AF gun the two upper rails are different heights. That’s a flat top reciever, look at the picture

It shows the front sight is actually mounted on what would be the lower top rail and is made to be offset to 45 degrees. There has to be a way to make a rear sight that does the same for the upper top rail.

Would a red dot on a 45 work for you, or one mounted on your scope? How about a laser?

Yes, I was hoping someone found a way to mount. I think it would be neat to have for quick acquisition from far to near target.
