Q:

Which regulator?

Back again to pick your minds… I am looking for more consistency out of my Talon SS. I am wondering if I get a regulator to help this, at what output pressure have you guys had the best luck for accuracy? My main use for this rifle is hunting, so keeping that in mind do you have any recommendations?

My specs if they help: I am using a scuba tank to fill. I am running the stock 3000psi talon tank. Shooting JSB’s 18.1, 50-60 yard max ranges, avg 35 yard shots.

Thanks for any input.

The only paintball tanks I ever had were an output of 850psi max. These regs start at 100bar (1450psi)

At that pressure range, you might as well get a co2 adapter and a hpa paintball tank. That’s my set up….with a 68cu carbon tank. Shoot ALL day long.

Thanks Dave.

It takes about 10 days.

I got about 57 shots and lower 875.9 and high 900.6.

It works fine.

WOOHOO! :8: How long did it take to get?

Piece of cake wasn’t it? Now show us some shot strings. 😀

My reg is working good now.

Yes, You are right. I was not sure if the pressure gauge could be seen well in the 12 o’clock position. As long as that works I can have the fill probe at either 9 or 3 o’clock. It surly will not work with the fill probe down like it is in the picture, because I have the Ultima stock. Please keep us posted, Im very interested in your results. I hate taking off my bottle!
Thanks.

Thanks Tulsa for the info. I will def let you know if I have any questions when I get it.

Exziver-
What is it about the Altaros that will not work with the Maddog? The Reg will extend the tank out a bit but i don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t work. The nipple and gauge should clear the stock since it is extended out.
I will post some pics and give some measurements for clearance next week after I finish my stock and receive my reg.

Guys,
I’ve been thinking about a regulator as well. Does anyone know what can be used with a Maddog stock? The Altaros looks great but the fill probe wont work with the stock. At least it does not appear that it would.
Thanks

A word (or two or three) about installing the reg.

When installing the gauge, you only need to put one wrap of teflon tape on the threads and tighten oh so gently by hand. That little gauge is fragile and you won’t find a replacement on this side of the pond. $20 american if you screw it up. I know. 😥 Same thing on the fill fitting but just snug it with a wrench.

You more than likely will have to “time” the bottle so that the fill nipple and gauge are where they are both accessible and visible. You will be able to easily remove the bottle from the frame unlike the Etac regulators. For this step, I found it easier to take the bottle collar out of the frame and install it on the valve after installing the regulator on the bottle. Then installing the entire assembly into the frame for a final fit to help locate the gauge/fill nipple where I wanted them.

When filling the tank, particularly the first time, you will have to do it very, very slowly. About 1000psi a minute. 😯 So it should take about three minutes to do a full fill. The fill nipple orifice is unbelievably tiny. Even on refills, take your time. AND DO NOT FILL IT FROM THE TOP HAT ❗ You will damage the reg.

A tip here is not to fill all the way full. Fill it to about 2000psi. You have to empty the tank to adjust it and you may have to do just that. Do some test shots over the chrony to see if it is shooting about where you want. I had to turn mine down. The setting at which I received it was pushing JSB 18.1’s at about 1050. Way too fast. I did about a 10 degree adjustment and got it back to 900fps. Gun was happy with this.

If you have any questions about the install, PM me and I’ll get ya shootin with it. 😉

Great! Glad to hear they are quick. And thanks for the info.

You shouldn’t have to wait long. They shipped the reg for my Pneuma on the 27th; I got it today the 1st. 😀 😀

I don’t have the gun with the reg in front of me. I believe it’s right at 2 1/2″ installed.

Thanks for the link. I ordered an Altaros reg and now play the waiting game. In the mean time I am going to be working on a custom stock for my TSS. Can anyone tell me the added length that the Altaros reg is going to add to the rifle?
Thanks again

800 – 850fps ought to do the trick.
