Speaking of Parallax Settings…

Why is it that if you buy an air rifle that has a scope packaged with it, it is usually a fixed parallax scope and the parallax is 100 yards? More often than not it is on a sproinger which is usually only good for about 25 yards.

I picked up an almost new sproinger at a yard sale the other day and I cannot get that scope to focus worth diddley squat. The crosshairs are nice and sharp, but the image does not come into focus until you pass 50 yards! And it is only a 4X scope, hardly suitable for long range shooting unless your quarry is an elephant.

I have to admit that I have almost no experience with fixed parallax scopes. Am I missing something here? Is there some trick or adjustment that I am unaware of so that you can adjust the focus? I have about adjusted the eye piece off trying to see through this thing.
