Q:

Cricket .25 groups after about 100 pellets

The Cricket seems to be settling in a bit, so I filled it up to 230 Bar and set a target out at 40 yds. Not owning a bench and everything is on a 40 degree slope here, I shoved a chimney flue liner in the dirt and plopped a Caldwell bag up front. Each group is 5 shots, JSB Kings, unsorted. After the first group, I noticed the scope was off, so re-zeroed it.

After a while, a branch dropped and blocked the center of my second target sheet, so I made a “U” shaped progression to see how many decent shots were to be had. (Too lazy to go cut it off and walk back.)

(If you can’t see all the groups, try increasing browser window size.)

Looks like about 63 good shots per 230 Bar fill. I suspect keeping well below the limit of 300 Bar avoids wasting air and blowing seals. Pellets started drifting down halfway through group13. Another 12-14 shots can be had, but they dropped about 1/4-1/2 inch and started drifting. Not sure what the exact pressure was after group 13, but it must have been a tad above 110 Bar, where I stopped. Considering the sloppy conditions (slope, breeze, unsorted pellets and Hillbilly rest), that rifle drills! Shot six squirrels last Wed. with six shots, 30-70 yds. out. Most were pass-throughs with enough energy to blow bark off or raise a dust cloud.

I haven’t run the Cricket through a chrony yet, but will do so when I get a chance.

Forgot to mention I was using manual advance and the magazines, just to eliminate any indexing inconsistencies.

RC, I hear you about peeping through the brush; when you want the muzzle clearing the leaves, long gun it is. When using bushes or vines for cover and not moving much, the Royale is my choice. The bullpup is easier to tote “at the ready”, fitting on the dash of my utility vehicle. with a beach towel to protect it/hide it from visitors. When I’m pesting from behind tree trunks, or just sitting still with camo, the short barrel is less obvious.

The Matador, with a NC shroud and can may be a good compromise between the two, long enough to poke through cover and short enough for easy transport.

Being a bit over 6′ tall, with very long arms, I wasn’t sure if a bullpup would be comfortable, but it is. The cheek weld now is a metal block 🙄 , but Steve at WW is mailing a wooden add-on which should fix that issue. Aside from comfort, there is the issue of sweat on metal. That may not be an issue in cold climates, but it is an issue in the humid south. Then again, an ice cold block of metal against my cheek sounds pretty bad, too 😛

nice group. less than 2 bar each shot. Impressive 63 shots per fill for .25.
velocity at 900?

Bogman – very nice shooting…

RC – of course its the girth and not the length… 😆

What is your velocity Bogman?

I have been pesting daily and just can’t see how to use a bullpup, I usually sneak up to 70 to 80 yards of a tree using the 6 foot grape vines as cover and then stick the barrel thru the vines over the last wire and grape vines, I am just too used to a long rifle, or at least as long as my little Tarantula.

Sure is fun.
